*deep breath* Well. My Nan died on the 4th of January, so the past week has been a bit harrowing. The Funeral isn't until Friday, so now we're playing the waiting game. I hate the limbo-like feeling, but there's not a lot we can do.
Sorry to begin on a downer, but it happened and I can't ignore it. But. We haven't all been languishing in a morose puddle of doom and gloom since last Wednesday (Nan died late at night). There have been good things. Mostly TV-related.
The BBC's latest cop drama (Zen, set in Rome, starring Rufus Sewell as DI Aurelio Zen) is brilliant. Rufus Sewell rocks the role, and Zen is a wonderful character. He's jaded, he's the only good cop in a bad city, and yet he doesn't let it get him down. He somehow twists every situation to his (or his department's) advantage. As much as the corrupt officials are using him, he uses them to get his way. He's likeable, and even though his romance with one of the secretaries makes me roll my eyes, it's kind of in a good way. It's like the show knows how ridiculous the pair of them are, and so do they - but it doesn't care, so neither do I.
Thoroughly enjoyable program. I highly recommend it.
Hustle is back for its seventh (seventh!) series. Ash is still my favourite. Sean is still adorable and hot in equal measure. Mickey and Emma are still dancing around one another. Albert is still the most awesome con-artist ever to walk the earth. :P
The first episode of the new series was great: full of everything I love about Hustle. Clever con, twist(s) I didn't see coming, Sean in a suit, funny dialogue, and the mark getting what was coming to them good and proper. >P
Guys, more of you need to watch this program - it's funny, heartwarming, and genuinely entertaining and clever. The actors are amazing (as well as playing their character, they also have to play the roles their character assumes when working the con, and every one in convincing). Sean is supermegafoxyawesomehot. What's not to like?
I watched The Cube for the first time yesterday. They have a faceless 'character' in a white and red jumpsuit called The Body who demos the games. Is it bad that my immediate thought upon seeing her was: "Ooooooo, she'd be a perfect partner for the Stig!" (Yes, I'm working on it. *headdesk*)
Goblet of Fire is going slowly, but that's mainly because I've been drawing a lot recently. I've rekindled my love-affair with Celtic knotwork and combined it with Harry Potter, but you'll have to wait until I get back to Warwick and my scanner to see the results ...
And that is, pretty much, my life right now. Eagrely awaiting the next episodes of Zen, Hustle, and Lark Rise to Candleford with as much enthusiasm as I ever give Doctor Who. Reading the Harry Potter series and cracking up because there are so many wonderful, funny moments I'd forgotten completely. Drawing in almost every free moment. And doing a bit of writing on the side.
Hope life's treating the rest of you OK.
