Success Tastes like Devil's Food with Fudge Icing

Gratuitous pictures of my cake, which Emily really seemed to like, and I was pretty pleased with, especially since I'd never worked with gum paste before. Or really any kind of sculpture. The cake was Devil's food with fudge icing. We covered that with white fondant, which I painted with swirls. Then we made roses out of royal icing (partly to prop up parts of the figures, and partly just for good old 'effect') and the border is just rows of 'petals,' also made of royal icing.

The figures are Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas with a little skeleton baby. I would have made hands and more detailed shoes if I'd had time, and another head for Sally because I don't feel like her face came out very well at all, but hey, this was a free cake for Emily, so she really wasn't allowed to complain. I made wire figures and then covered them with gum paste. I painted them with food coloring, so they're technically edible except for the wire, if you're into eating gross stuff like gum paste that I've touched all over and copious amounts of food coloring. (Maybe you're a gross person who eats gross stuff. I don't know. I don't know who reads this blog.) I've got some pictures of them just the way I made them, and then arranged on the cake.

If you know anyone anywhere I could reasonably deliver who might want a cake like this, please let me know. It was a lot of fun, and I'd like to practice more, but I don't really need to eat that much cake (and I totally would, if it was at my house) so I'd make cakes for a nominal fee (say, like, gas money.)

There's also a picture of Emily, the pregnant lady, just because she's so cute and pregnant. She is not made of gum paste.
