committed. get it?:

The first half of House was amaaaaaazing (Hugh Laurie emotes even better when soundtracked by Radiohead! Who knew!), but the second half pretty much gave me several :/ faces.

I was yelling at Alvie not to take the meds at the end. MEDICATION =/= WELLNESS OR EFFORT TOWARDS WELLNESS. Lack of medication =/= wellness either. It just equals medication or lack thereof. That's all. Every person and every episode of needing help is a different situation. The judgment of the narrative was definitely a slap in the face for all of us who choose not to be medicated (or discovered/realized after the fact that they never actually needed medication in the first place).

ALSO, can we count the ways I've had it with characterizations of "mentally ill" people as stupid, easily led, somehow intellectually deficient, and/or easily fixed by a pat narrative tool? SERIOUSLY.

For all this show talks about medical ethics and the frontiers of things and crazyass treatments, I was really surprised and disturbed by the confirmation of mainstream psychiatric theory in this episode.

(Also, let's not get into how I'm only in favour of Franka Potente's character if she was a hallucination.)

...I actually really liked it (ANDRE FUCKIN' BRAUGHER HOLY SHIT I MISSED YOU, DUDE). Um. I just can't think of good words for talking about why. The being angry and complaining about things is much easier for me.

No, I don't need a pink pill for that, thanks.

Now I'm going to take the whambulance to the shop and then go to the bylaws convention! SPRING BREAK, WHOO.
