After watching The Dark Knight I have become a great fan of joker. That was the best super villain i have seen in the movie verse of batman and the Nolan movies are the most fun of them all. After watching them i decided to check out any thing else joker related i can get my hands on in relation to TDK, and i stumbled upon two comics; Arkham Asylum & The Joker.
Batman:Arkham Asylum was illustrated by none other than Dave McKean (the guy who did Sandman covers and that excellent tarot deck). This was a very dark & disturbing comic, and the art was to die for.Creepy doesn't even begin to cover it.I have always loved McKean's work and this one didn't disappoint either with its dark imagery and nightmarish atmosphere. This was more of a psychological horror masquerading as the history and origins of the Arkham Asylum, but fun nonetheless.Saying anymore would be spoiling it for others but i would highly recommend it for any batman or McKean fan.
The Joker was Illustrated by Lee Bermejo and focuses on as the title suggests Joker.I decided to read it simply because Bermejo drew his joker with the same Glasgow grin as the Joker of nolanverse.Yes i know its very fan girlish of me to read this comic for such a reason but after TDK i cannot imagine joker without those scars, makeup and the creepy laugh. So i went looking for a comic with nolanverse joker and this is what i found. The art is good, the story nice and you see glimpses into the jokers character. Its done in that old detectives novel style with a narrator walking you through the plot. I like this one for its relative simplicity and flow.Of course the best part was the joker skinning a guy and the deal with the mob. I liked Jonny and how he tried to make sense of joker. All in All a good read, especially since you only see the batman in the last few pages:D.
