The problem with Miers...

Thomas Sowell had a great article today over at www.realclearpolitics.com attempting to explain the choice Bush made in his decision to appoint Miers to the Supreme Court. The fact of the matter is that yes, she is a complete stealth candidate. She may be another Scalia or Thomas, but ultimately, that point is moot. Bush is doing what Bush usually does when it comes to conflicts with the Democrats... outsmarting them.

The biggest problem with that is that real conservatives don't want to slide one sneakily by the Dems, it's that we want to face them head on with guns blazing and confirm that the last 60 years of Democrat rule of the Congress and Supreme Court is finally over. We don't want there to be any wiggle room left for the Dems to claim any kind of victory, but to stick it to them with complete, total, and utter defeat and finally get them to shut up for about 60 years (the same time they got).

Bush will, of course, win out in the scenario if Miers gets elevated to the Supreme Court and turns out to be every bit the proper jurist that he claims her to be. That's not the point. In reading into the decision by Bush to select Miers (instead of apologizing to Estrada by way of an appointment) is because he doesn't trust the Senate Republicans to do the job that the American people put them there to do (at no small personal cost). This means that our side is too weak (too many damned RINOs in the Senate like McCain, DeWine, Chafee, Snowe, Graham, etc.) to be trusted with the task of putting a powerful jurist over the heads of the screaming left. I can't say that I can argue with the logic, but I wanted to see the showdown myself, and now I'm stuck with the task of waiting for another time when the RINOs are replaced with true conservatives to actually enjoy the fight.
