Fun with Family History

Every few months, I wonder onto the Altizer (my maiden name) family history web sites to see what's new with research...seems some intesting stuff. Also, upon KT saying what her heritage was again, I wondered what was mine beyond what I knew and have found out by researching. This is the site I normally go to... http://www.altizer.net/   I found out today that I am listed now as is Alexzandria. That is pretty cool. If you want to play along with me in my research, you can follow these steps to start with me   *GEDCOM  > GEDCOM FILES (at bottom of screen) > A > Altizer, Abby Lea (that is me)  Oh and Russell (my bro) should you be reading this entry, just look for yourself...your there too.

So basically I started with my grandfather today, (not knowing the rest of us had been updated due to my last email to the updater person). My goal today was to research my heritage (where the Surnames came from). I know that my maiden name is German and I know some of the other countries. I started with my grandma then followed the path of men to find all my great (great, great...) grandmothers last names and run a search on another page as to where the last names came from. Play along with me by clicking on my grandfathers' (great, great...) names to see how far back my linage goes to when we came from Germany...this is mainly the part that has changed since last I checked. I used http://www.houseofnames.com to find the history of the name. I also saw the coat of arms was very similar to the Altizer one...very interesting.

Starting with my paternal grandparents:

8) Altizer, Hubert Harvey and Sutphin, Julie Ann Pimmel
     - Sutphin is Dutch and German

        Conner, Annie (born 8 MAY 1836 - death 12 JUN 1927)
        - Conner is Irish (not a suprise. = D )

5) Altizer, Jonas (born 1792 - death AUG 1861)
Sarah Ratcliffe (born abt 1792 - death 1858)
        - Ratcliffe is English

4) Altizer, Emera (born 1749 - death SEP 1819) - This is the grandfather I thought came over from Germany, apparently not, he was born in Dutchess Co., NY
         Pitzer, Anna Marie (born 15 FEB 1756 - death 25 AUG 1850)
         - Pitzer is Polish

3) Althauser, Johann Peter (born 1695)   - This grandfather was born in Segendorff, Germany
Laucks, Elizabeth Catherine (born 1711)   - she was born in West Camp, NY
         - Laucks is French

2) Althauser, Wilmhelm and Bauer, Anna Eva
     - Bauer is Danish and German

1) Althauser, Jacob    - this is where the trail goes cold...but I'm still very excited.

http://www.altizer.net/Whoweare.htm  - This explains the name change and some begining history. Very cool.
