Okay, I'll be blunt.

To You:

You do realize that "Men's History Month" translates into "History Month," considering almost everything you're taught in school about history focuses on men's achievements, right?

Sincerely,
Me

I'm now inclined to believe she's a troll, actually. In fact, I'm fully convinced that she is, and probably nothing will convince me otherwise. She doesn't take legitimate criticism seriously, for one. She blew off her reviewers who told her her work was problematic, and when she got great answers for her thread on bullying in fiction via Serebii, she thought it'd be a great idea to take it to PC and BMGf because she wasn't satisfied with it.

No matter how simply people explain things to her, she doesn't realize that what she's doing is horrendously offensive. She doesn't realize that she stereotypes girls, and she certainly doesn't realize she trivializes the issues minorities still face every single day. Newsflash, kids. If you live in a world where men can decide whether or not women can get life-saving operations and where male senators fail to take women seriously, you just don't live in a world where women are superior to men. True story.

She also likes to erase issues of violence and bullying against minorities (women, queers, racial minorities) by stating that it happens to men too. Well, yeah, but it happens much, much less frequently. Are men bullied until they commit suicide just for being men? Do white men have to be afraid of being raped or killed just because they were somewhere they shouldn't have been? Well, no, normally, they aren't and don't, and saying that you focus on straight, white men because doing so promotes equality sort of misses the point there.

Not to mention she worships pretty much the worst possible examples of femininity ever by claiming constantly that they're examples of women not giving a fuck. As in, she worships sex objects because they're pretty and "fierce" without realizing that they're not much else and that doing so would be sending a horrendous message.

So in short, she's either a troll or a terrible, shallow, willfully offensive person who refuses to listen to others. Which meeeeeeans...

And that's why I've stopped reading her work. Or, well, I've tried reading it recently, but the first chapter of her revision pretty much made no sense in that it consisted primarily of people apparently being massively condescending to her main character. (Backstory: Her main character is a Palkia who doesn't know how to control space, and she believes that this lack of knowledge is saying Palkia gets to choose whether or not she learns. She doesn't realize the unfortunate implication in the fact that no one is setting her straight on the matter is the equivalent of a person never learning how to walk for no other reason than she's too lazy to learn. Meanwhile, the fact that her boyfriend actively encourages her not to learn by giving her a bracelet that allows her to use his powers is basically the equivalent of someone giving the aforementioned person a wheelchair and telling that person they're worthless without them. In short, nothing about Palkia failing to learn how to use her powers is a good thing because it says she's voluntarily trying to be handicapped while everyone just lets it happen.) So... yep.

On that note, leaving this open but screening comments. Normally, you (my flist) know I don't like screening comments, but I'd rather keep the drama to myself. But it would still be pretty interesting if she saw that, yeah, I'll be honest. I sort of don't like her, only because she says that as a gay woman, I have no value whatsoever unless I look pretty and that all the issues that affect me aren't that much of a big deal/are complete lies. Also, I never really like it when people blow me off anyway.

But tl;dr, lol, people on the internet.

ETA: Although honestly, I think the most offensive part about all of this (and the thing that drove me to write this entry, really) is the fact that she decided Men's History Month should be the same month as Pride Month. Oh yes. Let's celebrate straight, white men for the same month that we're celebrating the people they beat, kill, bully into suicide, and oppress. That's not full of unfortunate implications at all!
