As was demonstrated in an interview with Katie Couric, Sarah Palin is unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade.
The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun.
Well, first I thought of Larry Flynt (also Supreme Court material), but I think I'd rather throw Dred Scot v. Sandford into the mix. Not that it's much better...Larry was in court fighting for his First Amendment rights (granted, porn) - and lost at least once (he went several times). Dred was in court fighting for his freedom - and lost!
Basically, the decision was that people of African descent held as slaves, or their descendants (slave or free), could never be citizens of the United States, and did not have the right to sue in court. This was overturned a few years later.
Take it as proof that sometimes, governments are silly. As if we aren't reminded of this every four years by the presidential campaign, anyway.
