The restrictions continue to tighten here - which is all to the good, since Poland's infection rate continues to be fairly low compared to other parts of the world. All home improvement stores are now to be closed on weekends; there are only three customers per register allowed in any store; hair dressers and beauty salons are closed full stop, and only those 65 and older can shop between 10am and noon. People are allowed out only for walking the dog and/or mental health (ie., you can't run or bike purely for exercise). All parks and walking paths are closed, no children allowed outside without a parent, and everyone must be at least 2 meters apart when outside (unless one person is a child or in need of special assistance).
Crazy restrictive, yes. Sensible under the circumstances, also yes. I went on a brief walk around the neighborhood yesterday evening, and I was the only person walking without a pooch at my side. (Though I did see at least two sets of couples holding hands in addition to holding the leash. Which is actually fairly unusual here; most of the time, dogs are off leash, but so well trained that it's never been a problem because the dogs stick close to their owners and don't go up to strangers.)
Yesterday was Bill's first day back at the embassy, and therefore my first day with both boys and virtual schooling. It went so much better than I'd anticipated, mostly because Andrew's day was fairly light, work-wise, and was full of things he's been able to manage on his own before. The biggest issue we had was that Andrew wants me around when he does his responses to the work assigned. Andrew's been giving a lot of his response by recording his answers, and I'm pretty sure his teachers probably heard Charlie yelling for me in the background. I figure that's not a terrible thing; they'll get a really good impression of what life here is like on a regular basis. Today, Andrew actually pulled Charlie into one of his updates; Charlie had painted his face green to match his shirt, and was pretending to be the Hulk. I like to think it gave Andrew's teachers a good laugh.
I am mostly doing okay with two sentences a day. I missed yesterday, but I also figured out that I'm going the wrong direction in the current scene in my WIP, and I have to figure out which way to go before I can continue. I'm actually tempted to shelve the WIP for the short term and do some editing instead; for some reason, I have this idea that it might be easier to concentrate on editing existing work than trying to generate another first draft. I really wish there was a book cover for me to work on. I'm enjoying doing those more and more, but at the moment, I'm all full up on the covers I need. I even redid the cover for Bonded Beach (which goes on free status tomorrow), because it was the first I did over a year ago, and I'd like to think I've improved a lot in that time.
I do wish I had a sewing machine. For one thing, I've got a lot of small projects around the house, hems and things, that I could be fixing right now. For another, home-made face masks, not that I have much spare fabric on hand. I was about to purchase one from an outgoing family, but we couldn't get together before the schools shut down, and now we can't get together at all. I'm tempted to figure out where I could buy a machine online and have it delivered, but I'd still need the fabric. And who knows if I'd even like a mask? Or could get the kids to wear one?
One advantage of being here instead of in the States: it's much less likely I will buy things I don't actually need online. Like extraneous sewing machines.
