A stinging rage made an impact with her cheek; feeling the tears slipping out of her lids.
There was a sickening thud echoing throughout the hallway as a figure dropped down to the dirty marble floor. Pain pulsed at the spot in which the hand made contact, therefore she could not lift herself from the ground. The strength that she had gained from laying on the floor for 5 seconds immediately evaporated as a foot collided into her gut. She cried out in pain, cringing at the throbbing pain electrifying her entire body. Her ears twitched as she heard the person above her spat curse words at her and mutter something about the lousy job she had done.
Taking the paper from her grasp, the person left her to her pain and walked away. It took a good 5 minutes for her to recover her senses and sit up properly. Her body was shaking violently from the blow and she suddenly erupted in a spasm of coughs. In her mind, however, she was grateful. Beatings like this were normal by now, and the recent one was less violent than the ones she usually encountered. Her head throbbed as she gripped her forehead with her right hand, the other on the ground to keep herself propped up. She felt something drip onto her left hand. When she looked down, a red circle had developed at the spot. By instinct, she removed her hand from her forehead and lightly pressed her lip. Sure enough, blood was flowing freely from a cut.
She scanned the deserted hallway for her backpack, until she came across the torn and beaten bundle, all its contents spilled and thrown everywhere. A heavy sigh escaped her lips; no doubt she would have difficulties finding her handkerchief. She tried to move her legs, but her body would not respond. Annoyed, she attempted to move her body again, until something pressed her right shoulder down. She did not register in time that it was a hand that anchored her down until she came face to face with a girl.
Her face immediately flushed, despite the fact her left cheek was already red from the earlier slap. Never in her life had she looked at someone this close, and she knew in an instant who she was looking at. She opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off as a soft fabric dabbed at the cut on her lip. Her eyes locked onto the other girl's dove-like ones. Why would the most popular girl at school be helping Seohyun, the nobody?
"At times like these, you should say 'Thank you'." Her train of thought was interrupted by the soft, silky voice of the girl. She realized the latter had stopped tending to her cut and was gazing intently at her. "T-T-Thank you....Yoona..." Seohyun had been caught off-guard by the remark, and stuttered badly under pressure.
"So you know my name?" The girl named Yoona flashed an amused expression.
"It's kind of hard not to know your name in this school..."
"But I don't seem to know your name.."
"...Seohyun..." She was resistant to tell the girl her name. It wouldn't matter since she technically didn't exist in these grounds.
"Seohyun...May I ask why you're here, down on the ground of the hallway, instead of in your classroom?"
Her breath was caught in her throat. Why did this girl care about a nothing like her? In what way could the most popular girl in school, Yoona, possibly benefit in this situation by talking to her? These thoughts constantly swirled in Seohyun's mind as she tried to form words to say. "I tripped..." she lowered her gaze, suddenly finding interest on the ground instead of the girl. Lying burned her throat, but for some reason, her words just formed themselves. Feathery fingertips grazed her chin as they raised her head, now gazing at a frowning face. Yoona whispered quietly, even if they were the only ones in the hallway. "It's not a good idea to lie.. Now tell me the reason why that person was hurting you..."
Seohyun was at a loss of words. Had this girl been watching the event minutes ago? Swallowing what she thought was her heart, she uttered, "I had to write that person a report. I guess I deserved it, since I fell asleep halfway through and didn't finish it," She glanced at Yoona briefly, who had an intrigued expression plastered on her face, before continuing. "You don't have to be so concerned though. Things like this always happen...It's fine." Seohyun was now examining the girl, who seemed to be in deep thought. She could have swore the latter had murmured "Always happens...huh?", but she could not rely on her ears at the moment.
After a while, Yoona stood up and walked towards her bag. She wanted to help the girl collect her stuff, but quickly fell back down when a shock-wave of pain flooded into her stomach. Once the girl had stowed away the last notebook and pencil, she laid the backpack next to Seohyun and turned on her heels to walk away. With all her strength, she finally managed to stand on her feet, leaning against a nearby wall. Something caught her eye from below. A folded handkerchief with blood stains laid on the ground. Seohyun bent down to pick up the cloth and looked up desperately in hopes to find Yoona still there. Sadly, the girl had vanished. She tightened her grip on the fabric. Her mind was swimming; everything she knew about the social class was slowly disintegrating. Was it possible for someone like Yoona to be talking to someone like her? Placing the straps of her backpack on her shoulder, she stuffed the handkerchief in her pocket and dashed to class, thinking of a good excuse for why she was so late.

Students were flooding out the music room as the teacher had let them out early. Seohyun leaned against the wall and sighed heavily. Off in the distance, a group of three were staring daggers at the girl.
"Who the hell does she think she is?" A girl asked, giving a disgusted look at Seohyun.
"I don't know Hyoyeon...but today, I got into big ass trouble because of that girl. She didn't even finish my report!" Another sneered, loudly chewing on a piece of gum.
"That's nothing, Sooyoung...Guess what I saw today?" The girl named Sooyoung and the other girl glared at Hyoyeon with a questioning look.
"After you left the girl on the ground, I found her talking to Im Yoona." Both girls gasped, Sooyoung shoving the girl for more details. The other girl abruptly raised a hand, immediately silencing the two. She had a serious look on her face, and the two shuddered at the aura she was giving off. "Someone needs to teach that brat about where she stands in the food chain..." Sooyoung glanced at Hyoyeon before turning her attention to the girl, a devilish grin on her face, "What are you planning, Yuri?" It was Yuri's turn to have an evil smile on her face. She took a side glance at Seohyun, who was currently reading a book, a smirk tugging at her lips. When she turned back to the two, they were eagerly looking at her, until she spoke up. "I'm planning to make her school life a living hell..."

The school's cafeteria was incredibly loud once you passed through the doors. Most of the noise was students' chatter, unless it was the clanging of utensils and platters or nutritionists passing out food to the students. After coming to this school for a period of time, Seohyun had quickly developed the skill to block out all the noises and eat her lunch in peace. Using her chopsticks to place a spicy rice cake in her mouth, she unconsciously took out the handkerchief and played at the stains with her thumb. She wanted to give it back to the girl, but because of Yoona's social standards, she knew it would be difficult to find her, let alone get near her. Sighing, Seohyun returned the cloth to her pocket and picked at her food, her appetite no longer present.
Off in the distance, the trio were whispering to each other, carefully laying out the plan to teach the girl the difference between high and low social standards. All nodding to each other, they walked single filed holding their lunches; in the order of Yuri, Hyoyeon, and then Sooyoung. They were all smirking as they approached Seohyun's lone table. One by one, Yuri and Hyoyeon passed the girl, who had no idea what was about to happen. Right when Sooyoung got near her, the girl lowered her hand to grabbed the tray of food, and flipped the entire thing until all its contents slapped right into Seohyun's face.
The shocked girl immediately stood up, the tray slowly sliding off her face until it revealed the mess behind it. Her cup of water had landed right on her head, her hair now soaking wet. A few of the spicy rice cakes stuck to her face, while some slid down her shirt. Sauces splattered her shirt and dripped to her skirt. After a moment of silence, the cafeteria exploded into laughter. The three girls in particular were laughing the hardest. Sooyoung grabbed the soy sauce from the table and unscrewed its cap. Raising the bottle, she dumped the whole thing on Seohyun's head, the dark brown liquid staining her uniform even more. The three girls were laughing even harder now, especially at the embarrassed face Seohyun was showing. Sooyoung dropped the empty bottle on her and said, trying not to choke on her own saliva, "There, doesn't that just go great with your crappy clothing? It suits you so well!"
Sooyoung quickly fell to the ground when a force shoved her away from the girl. Seohyun felt something clamp around her wrist and pull her out the doors of the cafeteria and away from the still laughing students. Trying not to lose her footing, she looked up and her eyes widened when she saw Yoona dragging her into a bathroom. She quietly watched as the latter turned on a faucet and dampen a paper towel under the warm, running water. A red tint surfaced onto her cheeks when the girl approached her and rubbed away the drying sauces on her face and removed some food items every now and then. Once Yoona had thrown away the towel she turned and examined Seohyun's horribly stained uniform.
The latter took off her backpack and rummaged through them until she pulled out an extra uniform. Carefully placing the clothing on her bag, the girl stood facing Seohyun, grasped her shirt, and began lifting it up. Her heat stopped temporarily when she felt fingernails graze her exposed skin. After regaining her senses, she shoved Yoona and backtracked until she leaned against the bathroom wall. "I-I-I can do it myself! Um...Thanks...for helping me..." The girl only stared at her, until she shone a bright smile. Handing the clothes to her, she exited the bathroom, leaving a flustered Seohyun behind. Why? This was the second time Yoona had helped her out. She was running out of explanations into which the girl could benefit from being involved with someone like her. Grinding her teeth in frustration, she stepped into a stall to change.

Both girls were now sitting on a bench locating on the school's roof. Seohyun glanced at the girl sitting next to her every now and then. Right after she had exited the bathroom wearing a clean uniform, Yoona had immediately dragged her up here. So many questions swirled in her mind, the main one being 'Why did this girl even care about her?' She wanted to ask the girl, she wanted to so badly, but she couldn't bring herself to even speak. She felt that her head would explode if she kept all these questions in. The sound of zippers opening and items moving pulled her out of her thoughts. Yoona had taken out a lunch box, revealing several pieces of kimbap on the top layer and rice on the bottom. The girl handed the layer with rice in it, saying with a smile, "Here, eat this. You're probably hungry since you lost your lunch."
That did it for Seohyun. She abruptly stood up and faced the girl, a frown knitted on her brow. "Why?!" The latter glared at her before simply shrugging. "I thought you would be hungry-"
"That's not what I meant!!! I mean, why do you keep getting yourself involved with me?! Why do you keep helping me and even coming near me?! You're Im Yoona! You're smart, rich, and have soo many admirers at this school! While I'm....I'm just a nobody!! I don't exist in this school and people treat me like trash, It's the way it should be in the Social class...so why?! Why do you treat me so differently?! WHY?!?!"
She was panting, feeling relief at her pent up questions exiting her system. Falling back into her seat, she examined the girl. Yoona was wearing a plain expression while looking at the ground. The girl was swinging her legs, until she raised her head to look at the city beyond the school fence, "You want to know why...?" Seohyun did not think first before vigorously nodding, she needed to know the answer. Yoona was now facing her, gripping Seohyun's right hand with her left, while the other placed it itself on the bench space between the girl's body and left arm. The latter leaned in so close, that she could feel her hot breath on her lips. Desperately searching her eyes, Seohyun almost flinched when she saw something different in the girl's eyes; was that lust she seeing? "There's something different about you...I've seen and talked to many people in this school, but not once have I ever encountered someone like you...You're so...innocent? Mysterious at times, and easily manipulated...The way people treat you, I get this sick feeling when you just simply walk away from it like it's nothing. I can't tell what you're thinking at all. Something about you..........is attracting..."
The girl said no more as she moved her right hand to the back of her neck and pulled her head in, closing the gap between their lips. Seohyun's mind and body felt like electricity was running all over when she could taste cherry flavored chap-stick on her lips. It was impossible to pull away, considering Yoona had a deadly grip on her hand and neck. Her mind was saying push this mad woman away, but her heart says continue; it's obvious this girl had feelings for her and somehow...she did, too. Her body ended up listening to her heart, and she didn't know whether to be glad or disappointed. Either way, her thoughts were beginning to evaporate as they continued to kiss.
At last, Yoona pulled away from her. Seohyun was so close to diving back into the kiss, but she was too busy trying to catch her breath. As if losing her oxygen jogged her memory, something clicked inside her brain. Quickly searching her pockets, she pulled out the handkerchief and handed it to the girl. Her attempt was foiled as the latter pushed it back, shaking her head a little. "Keep it." Yoona whispered. Heat emitted from her cheeks as she shyly put the cloth into her pocket once more, "Thank you...unnie..." The word earned a squeal from the girl and found herself immediately wrapped in her arms. Smiling to herself, Seohyun laid her head on Yoona's shoulder.

The door to the roof silently closed as the trio stood in the hallway with a shocked face. "Well that's one problem I didn't expect coming.." Hyoyeon said quietly.
"I know! Jeez, I thought the plan was to destroy that girl, not hook her up! Hey Yuri, wh--Yuri? You ok?"
The two immediately back away from the girl who was fuming, and a growling noise could be heard from her. Both of the girl's fists were clenched tightly, knuckles slowly turning white. Anybody who wanted to live would want to know that coming a foot near a pissed off Yuri would result a death wish. "Damn that brat!" She screamed as she punched the nearest wall. If she had hit any harder, the plaster would have fallen apart. Spitting, Yuri spun on her heels and rushed down the hallway, Sooyoung and Hyoyeon trailing behind. The frown on her face could not be removed and she muttered with all her venom in it, "I'll show you...I'll show you what it means to get yourself involved with my Yoona..."

Seohyun did not fight the yawn that escaped her lips as she dialed her code on her locker. Ever since she had given Yoona her phone number, the girl was ruining her sleeping schedule by calling her at night and talking for nearly 3-4 hours. Not that she didn't like talking to her, but if she continued this, she'd eventually turn nocturnal. As she opened the metal door, a piece of paper slipped out and floated to the ground. Eying the paper curiously, Seohyun reached for the note and read the words written on it. Hey! When you read this note, meet me in the Music room! ♥~Yoong She found herself smiling like an idiot when she saw the heart. Closing the locker, she made her way down the hall, towards the destination.
As she approached the Music room, she noticed that the door was left wide open. Now Seohyun was standing in front of the doorway. Peering in, she examined the room. The blinds to the window were put down, making the room darker than usual. On the left side there were many desks lined up in rows, while on the right was a piano, a podium, a large mirror, and a chalkboard attached to the wall. She stepped into the center of the room; there was no sign of Yoona. "Unnie?" she quietly said.
Suddenly, the door to the room shut closed. Seohyun spun around and her eyes widened when she saw a figure leaning against a wall near the door. Slowly, the person straightened up and walked towards her. It may had been dark, but she knew who this person was; Yuri. As a nobody, she should at least know the names of her classmates. There was something different about the girl, something more...dark about her, which scared her. She began to back up, but Yuri was faster. In just three strides, she was a foot away from her.
A stinging sensation electrified Seohyun's cheek as her head jerked to the right, her body stumbling along with it. Yuri's nails were incredibly sharp, and had grazed her cheek, leaving two cuts along with the reddening of her cheek. She was fighting for her balance. Out of the whole school year, this would have been the most hardest she has ever been slapped. While one hand was trying to stop the blood from running on her cheek, the other was trying to grab something to keep her up. Yuri watched as she stumbled like a drunk, until she turned and made her way towards her.
Soon, her left hand came into contact with a wall. She glanced at the wall, only to find a picture perfect reflection of herself. In the mirror, Seohyun could see the girl approaching her. She wanted to move away, but found it impossible when a deadly grip locked onto the back of her head. Grunting in the effort, Yuri pulled her head back, and using the momentum, rammed Seohyun's head right into the mirror. A mixture of a screech and crackling filled the silent room. She felt her arms go limp as her strength drained away along with the warm, sticky fluid running down her face. When the girl retracted her head, several shards of the glass fell to the ground, all of them stained with her blood.
Yuri twisted the girl in her grasped around and pulled her closer by the collar of her blood-stained shirt. Looking into the girl's chocolate eyes, Seohyun saw the eyes of hatred. What did she do wrong? What did she do to deserve this painful beating? Why was this person beating her to a pulp for something she doesn't even know she did wrong? "Little bitch, you think you can just take her away from me?" the girl hissed. Before she could even ask what she was talking about, Yuri lifted her off her feet (adrenaline somehow gives you strength), and threw her right into a row of desks. Seohyun felt chair legs jab into her ribcage and desks scrape at her legs as she tumbled threw the mess, and desks and chairs toppled over her.
She felt like crap at the moment. Blood was pooling underneath her head while her cheek and legs bled trails on her body. She couldn't breathe regularly and she just felt so broken. Through the cracks of the desk avalanche, Seohyun saw the girl approaching her, removing some desks, so that her body was now uncovered. Her vision was beginning to fail her. She wanted to pass out right now and forget the excruciating pain she was in, but she knew this girl would not let that happen. Yuri kicked the girl square in the stomach, and relished the way she screamed in agony. Seohyun began her coughing spasm, except she wasn't expecting blood to be sky-rocketing out of her mouth and splatter on the ground.
Bending down, Yuri pulled the girl's head up by her hair, earning a cry of pain from her. She was snarling at this girl, she had never felt so angry at an individual before. "Listen here brat. You are the bottom of the food chain, you are nothing, scum that should not exist. I'm going to make this very clear. If you ever get so much as 10 feet close to Im Yoona, you better expect the worse..."
"And what would the worse be, exactly?" Yuri jumped at the mysterious, yet familiar voice. She dropped Seohyun and spun around to find Yoona standing by the doorway, obviously very pissed. Yoona began making her way towards the girl, why she was frantically waving her hands. "Y-Yoona! What a surprise! Listen! This isn't what it looks like! I--" Yuri was interrupted when she began howling in pain and placed a hand on her cheek. She glared at the younger girl who still had her hand raised, tears escaping her eyelids. "Leave. Right. Now." Yoona said with gritted teeth. Having no choice but to obey, Yuri ran out of the room, trying to hide her tears that trailed down her face.
After she made sure that menace had left the room, Yoona walked up to the half-dead Seohyun and fell to the ground on her knees. Even thought her vision was bad, Seohyun could see the tears that ran down her cheek. Carefully, Yoona laid her head on her lap, despite the fact that blood was still running and probably staining the girl's skirt. The girl pushed back a blood-soaked bang and ran a finger down a dried blood trail on her face. "Why?" Yoona whispered. She couldn't tell if the girl was sad or angry. She didn't have the strength to speak, so she continued to listen. "Why must you deal with this pain alone? You say this always happens and it's fine, but I won't believe that. Look at you...you look practically dead. You always ignore these beatings, and just walk away like it's nothing. I don't understand.........how can you endure this pain by yourself...."
Seohyun felt water splash into her cuts, which made her flinch. In the beginning, she had to deal with everything herself, but now, she had a different meaning. It took all her strength to raise her bruised arm and wipe a tear from Yoona's puffy eyes. The latter gazed straight into her eyes from the tender motion. Seohyun cracked a smile, and simply stated, "Before, I thought dealing with the pain myself would be better...but now, I think I can endure the pain, because I know you'll be there to save me..." Yoona could not restraint herself anymore. She cautiously lifted Seohyun's body and wrapped her arms around her waist to support her. The girl stroked her hair, whispering into her ear, "I'll always make the pain go away from now on..." Yoona redirected her head, until her lips were connected to Seohyun's. I'll be your protector, forever...So never endure alone...
