sprint speed

in case you missed this from my facebook.

today i discovered quite possibly the most awesome super cool feature i have EVER used in my 7ish year as a cell phone consumer. and seeing as how i work at the KING of telecoms (sprint of course) this is no small feat. i will share with you all how i came upon this amazing discovery and how it applies to your life. listen closely my friends. listen closely.

i was sitting at work. bored. the thought came to me that some of my friends don't enjoy text messaging as much as i do now. i suppose this is probably because of the fact that i am on an unlimited employee plan from sprint. so i thought about how somebody would send a text (and see the awesomeness that is texting somebody) without having to pay for it. well i found this site (http://www.sprintusers.com/textmessage/). you'll notice you can send texts to any sprint, verizon, tmobile or whatever customer for free from your computer. so i tested this. obviously it worked. i mention this to a friend of mine about how this is pretty cool. but she stated that its cumbersome to have to load up a browser and go to this page everytime she wanted to send a text. i agreed. so i explored this option further.

i noticed that on texts received from that website. the originating location is from a email-type address. this gave me an idea. i looked through my phone's texting-options and there was ACTUALLY an email field. i put my own gmail in there and BAM. the text went to my gmail. (start of super awesomeness). i take a few minutes to ponder the ramifications of this and then look through the email and notice that the sender is just my phone number plus messaging@sprintpcs.com so i test this by sending an email to that address. this email arrives in the form of a text to my phone. SUPER AWESOMENESS RIGHT HERE. my phone has an "email-address" if you will. when i replied to that email sent to my phone as a text, it arrived at my email as... well an email!

i ask around.. and apparently i'm the ONLY person who didn't know about this feature that even "verizon" has.

well i think it is the most supremely awesome feature ever. this means you can communicate instantly with anybody who has a cell phone via your email. this doesn't cost you anything and if they have an unlimited text plan is free/cheap for them!

this basically opens text messaging up to everybody! it also means your phone can interact with email. two completely different networks interacting seamlessly!

...and no for you haters out there. i don't think this is awesome because i work at a telecom. i just think text messaging is awesomely cool to begin with.

cliff notes for lazy people:
you can send emails which arrive in the form of a text message if you know the person's "phone email address". i dont know how you "verizon" folk have it but if you're sprint, it is your sprint number + @messaging.sprintpcs.com
