its something that i've been meaning to type up for a while. its how i view life in nova and certain other things that have annoyed me a lot last week.
to start all this: life in nova is boring
i don't think this statement is particularly wrong or right. it depends on how what you compare it to and how you live your life. if you want to compare nova to nyc or some other big city, then there probably is less to do. however i do think if you do it right, nova can be pretty fun (i have been "forced" to find out about fun stuff in nova since it seems i'll be here for at least 2 years).
so this next part is something that i've been thinking about for a long time but recent events have prompted me to write this down into thought.
i think the reason a large number of you find nova boring is because you are unwilling to try new things. whether because of "money issues" or just a reluctance to explore the unknown.
i am addressing the way people backed out of happy hour and clubbing in dc. while you can argue that clubbing just isn't your thing, i KNOW most of you enjoy parties and drinking from college experiences. while maybe past clubbing experiences weren't all that positive for some, can you truly say all your college party experiences have been mind blastingly positive? if you are unwilling to give something another chance, well i dont know you won't ever try new things?
most of you complain that there is nothing to do in nova. but have you really tried, gone out and tried a lot of things to do? i'm talking about how every party or get together devolves into some kind of video playing... thing. while i do admit that i play video games, i am talking about how every major get-together involves gamecube or wii at some point. i wouldn't say anything if you all felt that this is the life you want to live. but the fact that so many of you complain that there is nothing to do yet are unwilling to break out of this seems contradictory.
now the money issue of "going out". i feel so many of you use this as such a convenient excuse to not do anything else. if you respond back with a "i have a genuine need for this money that i cannot spend". all i can counter is do you really not spend money on fun stuff? on games, movies, and other toys? now if you answer yes then i will not press this anymore. i dont want to pry into personal issues like this. but if you answer yes, that means you do have SOME sort of disposable income. a night at a bar or club can be expensive. it can cost 50-60 dollars. but how much money is that really? its barely watching 5 movies, and that's if you dont buy refreshments. its maybe 2 or 3 meals. what do you get for this money? you get a night out. meeting a LOT of new people. experiencing new things.
this is the last and only time i will ever mention this again in a setting like this. now that you all know my feelings about all this, its up to you to decide what you want to do with it. if you decide that i am wrong and dont know about your life. then its ok. i do not want to force people to live in a manner that they dont want to. i will not comment any further about how you live your life, but do not expect me to join you in it.
