So, I went to a fundraiser planning meeting at the Muslim community center, SALAM (Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims), in Sacramento. I had done a breakdown of the charities as previously written about. I learned of the EDHI International Foundation whom among other things are solely responsible for the presence of ambulances in Pakistan. I think the Mosque is going to split tax deductible organizations between EDHI and Islamic Relief. Non-tax deductible donations are going to go with my father directly to Kashmir if it's not too dubious legally. I think I'm going to go call the IRS, but I'm pretty sure it's okay as long as my dad is acting as an agent of those who are giving moneys.
Anyhow, I found out 5 more of my cousins are deceased. That's 9 thus far. I think someone's bingo card is full.
That was an awful joke. I'm Sorry.
I'm also morbid.
In n Out is delicious, thank god for small blessings.
Okay, I need to go design a flyer for the earthquake relief benefit.
Over and Out.
Edit: Most of my cousins (second cousins for Americans) who are dying seem to be my age or slightly older. Nearly all were in town working, and were subsequently trapped.
My dad's house is the only one standing in his village because it's the only one that was properly constructed. It was drafted by my Mom's brother in law who's a (surprise) draftsman.
Kashmir was dreafully under prepared, most houses are constructed in a stone and mortar stylem with large stones laid one atop each other: not terribly stable in an earthquake. Further, Kashmir doesn't get earthquake activity. Man, this is still such a shock.
