Absolutely delighted about
this news - victory for free speech, rationality and science over the UK's ludicrously over-eager libel courts. There has been an extremely worrying tendency in recent months/years for commercial and other interests to sue not only journalists, but scientists publishing in academic journals, in the UK courts when they don't like the content of a scientific paper which demonstrates a lack of convincing evidence that their product or technique works.
The UK libel laws need serious reform (another reason I shall be voting Lib Dem, it's in their manifesto!) - it's so easy to sue someone for libel in the UK that cases get brought here even when the connection with the UK is tenuous in the extreme - but in the meantime this is a victory for rationality, free speech and fairness. Double yay.
