Yesterday's #happything: my winter coat

Jan 25, 2016 23:06

I'm a few days behind on #happythings, so may get a bit out of chronological order!  Yesterday's #happything: getting to wear my good winter coat.

I found it in the local charity shop a few years ago, when I had taken Second Small Person in there to spend his pocket money on some toy cars: it's a full-length, charcoal grey, wool mix coat with a huge silver-grey fake-fur collar, nipped in at the waist. Very 1940s, impossibly glam by my standards.

I hardly ever get to wear it, because as you can imagine it's not very practical on a bike! It has mostly done duty at winter weddings and funerals, and Remembrance Sunday/Armistice Day commemorations out-of-doors.

Yesterday, though, we were all invited to a christening service for the Resident Geek's newest niece, who is not quite a year old, down in the village in Wiltshire where her parents were married. Since I was brought up in the Anglican Church and have sat through plenty of services in village churches in the depths of winter, I knew it was likely to be chilly. So I wore my lovely long coat - and while a few of the visitors were shivering, I was snuggly and warm and happy :-)
