Second Small Person required me to spend some time this afternoon (since it was lovely and sunny) outside on the Crescent with him while he made good use of one of his favourite Christmas presents - a foam-rubber Dwarven battle-axe. He was Dain, and I was allowed to wave a sword about and required to be Thranduil, at the Battle of Five Armies. I ( Read more... )

Love this. I'd have liked to be a fly on the wall while the battle was going on! I do hope you managed a sympathetic portrayal of Thranduil :>)

Good lad! Is it a copy of one of Gimli's axes?

I am being remarkably ungeeky here, in not immediately knowing the answer - but I do wonder why Gimli has a different axe by the time he is at Helm's Deep.

Axe 1, in Moria - which he is still carrying in Fangorn. But here he is at Helm's Deep and it is the double headed one like D-d bought her father for his birthday.

Was he carrying a spare somewhere un-noticeable?

I'd always assumed the one he had at Helm's Deep he'd picked up there - there were various additional weapons being handed out from the armoury. That one looks a bit big to have been stuffed in his pack!
