Narnia!!
I went to see Chronicles of Narnia yesterday night and it was really good. I re-read the book the afternoon beforehand since I hadn't read it since I was about 10 years old, so I was all ready.
I was really lucky to get tickets... My friend and I went two hours early and bought tickets then wandered around the mall, trying to get Christmas shopping done and not really accomplishing anything. When we got back to the theater just before the movie started, there were no seats available except in the second row. So we were really close to the screen. By the time the movie began, every seat was filled. Sold out, and on a Sunday night, too: usually that doesn't happen around here. On Sundays, most people stay home and relax in the evening...
So anyway. The movie was amazing. I couldn't believe how close to the book they stuck. It was like watching the book onscreen. Changes I saw usually made an improvement upon the book, rather than feeling clunky or not-quite-right. Over all, I was very happy so I don't really feel like picking on specific parts that weren't quite right.
I will say that I was very surprised that it got a PG rating. The stone table scene was just as tear-jerking and scary as I remember it from my first time through the books when I was in second grade.
I loved, loved, loved the special effects. WETA digital, the same folks behind LOTR, have made another masterpiece. Aslan was completely digital, as were the beavers and dozens of other animals. Can you say Oscar?
