2010/11/27 - LACCO TOWER TOUR 2010 「探心旅行」 ツアーファイナル ワンマンライブ | 新宿LOFT

Nov 28, 2010 17:32

After 2 weeks of live withdrawal symptoms, I finally get to go to a livehouse again! Yayy! Also, yayy for my first punctual live report!

LACCO TOWER's one of those bands which I got introduced to by Tako-sensei, who discovered them because they were friends(?) of her beloved flumpool while randomly link-hopping on Youtube. I never really listened to their entire discography, and there were some songs which didn't really stick after I listened to them. But one fine day I remembered their existence and Google told me that they were due to be in town for their tour final, so I decided to give it a shot. They were also handing out not-for-sale DVDs to those who attended the live, so that was a plus.

Today's live was at Shinjuku LOFT, one of the places I've long heard about, want to visit but have never been to. Google Maps is my best friend. And I managed to get there safely ahead of time.

Shinjuku LOFT, unlike what its name suggests, is actually underground. And what a better place to be hidden in than a building full of host and hostess clubs!

Apparently most fans buy their tickets at the door, because I saw everyone with yellow tickets and was wondering if I was queuing up for the wrong thing. And that's probably also why I had actually managed to get ticket number 5 because everyone else got theirs at the last minute (and paid 500yen more for it. I don't understand why they would willingly do this).

It wasn't a packed livehouse tonight, but it was mainly filled. I got a nice place on the elevated platform at the back, right where the metal bars were. It's my first live at a non-punk show, and it was interesting to see the different crowd types. This is going to be a relatively short report (well, anything is short compared to the previous monster), but mainly because there weren't many MCs. That doesn't make it worth any less because it's the first MC I've teared up at. Would have ended up crying if not for my damned dry eyes. They played 25 songs in total, and it's also my first time seeing a double-encore!

The live started somewhat late, around 6.30pm. The lights dimmed and some acoustic music started playing over the speakers. One by one, the members entered to applause from the audience. Then the music changed to a keyboard piece. It was a pretty quiet affair, nothing flashy, yet changes the entire atmosphere of the livehouse, which was what I kinda liked.

MC1
Drums
"Welcome to the Tanshin Ryokou tour final. Thank you, everyone. We've played in 25 places nation-wide, and today is the last. Of course, we'll be going full-steam ahead today as well."
(awkward silence and the audience laughs)
"Yea, so I hope you guys can see and accept our passion!"

Vocals
"Let's create an awesome day together!"

Clearly, the guys aren't really talkers haha. But they're awesome that way, when you let the music speak for itself.

MC2
Vocals
"How's everyone? Are you enjoying yourselves? We have a radio show on FM TARO, which we do every Friday. But yesterday, we couldn't do it because we had practice. So we decided to do it over the phone. The producer, pulling his hair out in anxiety, asked us "So, how exactly do you plan to do this??" And it's with these feelings that we're here doing this live today. Thank you so much!

Well, just lika Mataro (the drummer) said earlier, we've done 25 lives up till now [in this tour]. Lots of things happened, like this guy here (gestures towards bassist) who really wanted to take a dump so badly that we had to pull over at a parking compound. And in his hurry to get out of the van, he flung the door open too wide and hit the car beside it. And there was also the time when he got called over by the police, right? A lot of things have happened. (To bassist) Hey, say something!"

Bass
"Isn't that fine once in awhile??"

Vocals
"To get pull over by the police? You don't have any points left, right?"

Bass
"Yea, none."

Vocals
"Yea, and there was that time when they got caught for not putting on their seatbelts. But anyway, lots of things have happened, and here we are standing before you today. The tour started in autumn, now we're heading into winter. And then, spring will come. I'd like to continue doing this as long as possible. Let's all enjoy today. We'll be doing a nostalgic song next: "Miyako Wasure"."

MC3
(This was done with a the keyboardist and drums jamming a bossa nova-ish tune as the BGM.)

Keyboards
"How are all of you enjoying yourselves? Hmm this [music] feels "shimmy jimmy", kinda fancy! We're entering "fancy zone" now!"

Vocals (with a WTF look on his face)
""Shimmy jimmy"???"

Keyboards
I mean, up till now we've been really uncool. So that's why we're doing this (playing the bossa-ish tune) now! Alright, everyone clap your hands!"

Drums
(To the rhythm of the tune)
"I'm Shigeta, the one who's performing now. Shigeta, the one who's performing now. And then...

Keyboards
(Also to the rhythm)
"I'm Shin'ichi."

Drums
"We are alive. We are alive. Man, I'm really screwing this thing up."

Vocals
"Let's move ahead with this kind of atmosphere!"
(A little while later)
"Okay I think this will never end."

Drums
"Let's introduce the members! Drums!!!"

Vocals (with the same WTF look on his face)
"You're starting from yourself????"

Drums
"I'm Shige! On to the keyboards, Gari Gari Shin'ichi Jet! He's Shin'ichi! And then, on bass! Onigiri Kenji! Next, our vocalist Matsudaira Ken! There is one mushroom here, Mushroom Horiuchi Kouji!"

Vocals
"Okay I think it's about time we head into the next song."

MC4
Vocals
"Thank you all so much for coming to our Tanshin Ryokou Tour Final. This time around, we've named our tour "tanshin". I think it's been a really wonderful tour for us. It's a tour in which we search for our hearts. I guess most of the people who are hear have already heard of this, but we've released our new album in October, and it's been a really tough process for us. Just the 5 of us standing here before you today, it's already a miracle. But having said that, we've done 25 shows so far, with lots of things happening along the way, a lot things taking form along the way. And there's also some of you here who have followed us along the way on our tour. I feel that it's been a really happy tour for us."

"For me, I've been searching for my heart throughout the entire tour. It's something which I can't really put into words, but for the sake of becoming a little bit happier, for the band to put in the best they can today, tomorrow.. in order to be able to become just this little bit better so that we can proudly show ourselves to you at the next live, we have come this far. But in the end, even as we head towards the final, I realised that this isn't the end. It's like, from tomorrow - unless Japan disappears tomorrow - it's not the end. Everyone has their jobs and school to attend. They have their family and friends around. That person you really despise, that person you really love... they will be around. All those different sorts of people will still be around. I feel like these things won't end today, and that they'll continue to go on. And that's why for us too, it isn't the end for us here today. We will continue to search and move forward, step by step. Let's work hard together, yea? We're really not that strong. If one of the members were to disappear, we wouldn't be able to carry on. And it's the same for all of you. We are really just all the same, you and us. There's no difference at all. We all feel sadness and pain. Therefore, let's enjoy this little happiness together. Let's all go on this search [for our hearts] together. And then little by little, step by step, find happiness. Yoroshiku. "Hanabira"."

I love this MC so much. It's the first one which really touched me and made me cry (sorry, Shun ^^;;). His voice also cracked towards the end, like he too was about to cry. It broke my small heart. Ahhh it sounds so much better when said in Japanese.

The audience clapped until the band decided to oblige us with an encore.

MC5

Bass
"Thank you everyone! I'm Shiosaki Keiji from LACCO TOWER!"

Keyboards
"Hello, good evening." (long pause) "I'm suberidai (I think this means something lines of "I failed"???)."

Bass
"Thank you for being with us all the way. Firstly, well as you all know already we've released an album in October and have been on tour. And now this is the final, right? (waits for audience's response) Right? Up till now, for the main section of the live, we've never done so many songs before. I don't really remember too clearly what went on at some parts, but our set list consists of 25 songs, the longest list ever for us LACCO TOWER. We've done 25 lives so far, going from location to location. And I think there are quite a few bandmen, livehouse staff, and fans here today from different areas of Japan. I'm really very thankful for this. Thank you for having us in your life."

Vocals
"Suberidai, do you have anything to say? Suberidai?"

Keyboards
"Hmmm let's see. I've had a lot of fail moments during the tour."

Vocals
"Really? I don't think so. I mean, today..."

Keyboards
"Until the end of this tour, I'm Suberidai."

Vocals
"Ah I see. You know, I don't think anyone here understood what you said."

Keyboards
"Yea, I guess no one would."

Vocals
"Okay I think let's stop here. Mataro (drummer), do you have anything to add?"

Drums
"I guess I was screwing around too much just now, so I'm going to be serious now. Thank you all so much. This is the first full album that we've released as the 5 of us. Kazuma(?) left and Hori joined us. Right at the beginning it was just the three of us, and we didn't know what would happen to us."

Vocals
"Yea, we often went to the izakaya together. We were really good-for-nothings."

Drums
"Then there was this miracle in the form of Shin'ichi joining us. From then on, we worked hard, really really hard. And we're now where we are today. There has really been a lot which happened. However, we've just been focusing on one thing at a time. We're all unreliable guys, really. The fact that we've been able to carry on this long as a band is all thanks to you guys. From now on, please continue supporting us."

"... Yea, right."

(everyone looks at Hori (guitarist) as he is the only one who hasn't said anything. Hori nods and smiles awkwardly)

Vocals
"He just said "thank you". Once during the rehearsal, he told me, "You know, I think it's better than we stop here." But since then... that was about 3 months earlier or so I think."

"Anyway, thank you for the encore. I've realised during the tour that even though I'm the one talking, I'm not speaking for myself but for LACCO TOWER as a whole. What should I say... There have been many people who have been doing this with us along the way. Of course, there's the audience. But as he said earlier there are also the various bandmen who have travelled from far away to be here with us tonight, the record label's boss(?) who's here, and the people who are doing the sound and lighting today are friends who we've known from long ago. I'm really happy to be able to be loved by so many people. Thank you so much. Thus, for this miracle, here's a song, "Kiseki"."

The audience started clapping again, and they obliged us with a second encore.

MC6
Bass
"Hello, I'm Shiosaki Keiji."

Drums
"Hello, I'm the hard-boiled member of LACCO TOWER, Shigeta Mataro."

Vocals
"Hey there, I'm the mushroom dude, Matsutake Keisuke."

(and here everyone goes "OHHHHHHHHH" because FINALLY Hori looks like he's going to say something!"

Guitar
"I'm Horiuchi Kouji of LACCO TOWER."

Keyboards
"I'm the back light (?? - He said "koshi hikari", and back light made the most sense to me because he usually stands in the background) of LACCO TOWER, Sabojo Tsun."

Vocals
"WTF are you saying???"

Keyboards
"Well, I thought it was pretty funny!"

Vocals
"Ugh okay whatever man. You're gonna be the clean-up guy today when we head for drinks (I assume its the dude who hauls the drunk people home)."

Keyboards
"Oi, hold on you can't do that!!!"

Vocals (ignoring him)
"Thank you for the encore!! You know, it was a dream come true to do a one-man live for our tour final. It was a dream come true to be able to do a live in front of so many people. And it's really a dream come true to be asked to do a double encore. We're really, really happy!! Thank you all so much!!"

"This will be our last song! Are you ready? Are you all ready?? "Yuunagi"!"

The live ended at about 8.30pm, and I had to hurry off for a Thanksgiving gathering at a friend's dorm. Really wanted to buy either a CD, shirt, or towel, but resisted because I'm already overspending for this month (because I bought next month's epic expensive CDJ tickets D: ).

There were so many of these signed posters around the livehouse! I wanted to sneak one away, but I didn't see anyone doing it so I felt bad and didn't :( They were all hand-signed, not printed!!

All in all, an enjoyable live considering that I went there not knowing much about the band and not really loving all their songs in the first place. I fell in love with some of the other songs I heard there (I am a huge fan of "香" now). Also, having loved reading Matsugawa Keisuke's column and hearing that MC he gave... 心にドストライクだった。 I love intelligent and sensitive bandmen. Oh doom. I have too many black holes in my life. 危なっ。

I am wondering if he's a left or right hander, because he holds the mic with his left hand. I also love his hair. Thoguh I suppose it irritates him sometimes, because I keep seeing him sweep it away with his right hand, even out of concert (on the DVD they gave us).

Though however I count, it still reads 24 songs. Maybe I missed one out D: Yea, I missed one out. In any case, I loved the second half of the live much more than the first. I guess I'm not really a fan of angsty rock? His voice grated a little on some songs, but I guess it's mainly because they tend to blast the music really loud in small livehouses. I don't know why... Which is why I really loved the Akasaka BLITZ sound system because I didn't leave with a deaf ear unlike yesterday. Surprisingly though, even though the music was clearly blasting my ears off, my recordings turned out pretty good compared to the previous lives!

Okay I said this report was going to be shorter than TOTALFAT's - and it really was - but it's because they actually had conversations between the band members than it stretched out vertically. Also, I didn't remember them having 6 MCs, but apparently they did D:

I'm so glad I took the chance with this live :)
