Seeing that too familiar gentle smile makes him feel light despite how heavy he’s currently feeling. It feels nice to finally see this man in person when he had always merely watched the singer on the television screen due to the great gap between their locations since both of them started working. It was like he hadn’t seen the man for years.
“No schedules, Yesung-ssi?” he asks his hyung teasingly, knowing how much the older hates it whenever he calls him by his screen name.
He receives a short chortle from the blond. “For like two hours, yes. We’ll be filming my music video here in Busan.”
His eyes sparkle in interest after hearing it. Ever since Jongwoon became a singer, he had wanted to watch how Yesung works, personally. He only witnessed Jongwoon work as a photographer, not as a famous celebrity, which is something his hyung had dreamed of doing.
Jongwoon smiles shyly and scratches the back of his head. “Actually, that was what I wanted to ask you.” A shy Jongwoon is such a rare sight, if only he could bring out his phone this instant and take a picture of it.
“Then it’s settled!” he enthusiastically says, bouncing on his heels like a kid. Noticing something, he looks around the place, thinking that it is unusual for Jongwoon to go in a place like this. “What is Yesung doing in an orphanage with his college friend?” He just likes teasing Jongwoon.
Jongwoon glares lightly at him, but there’s still a playful glint behind it. “To reveal that the particular friend is his boyfriend, and they are going to adopt a baby.”
He fakes a gasp, covering his mouth using his hands. “This is news!”
Jongwoon chuckles, his equally blond hair shining under the sun. “Shut the crap, Sungmin. Seriously, though, I want you to meet someone first.”

The orphanage house is a big old one, though the blue paint on the walls didn’t make it look like it had housed parentless kids for more than fifty years already, based on what Jongwoon told him a while ago. The furniture is mostly made of wood and there are no stuff made of glass in the area, considering that there are naughty kids inside. The windows are widely opened, letting the wind gracefully blow on the light blue curtains. The couches on the carpeted living room are already cushioned and there is a big play mat beside the white and blue carpet, with toys arranged on a big shelf near it.
What interested him the most is the hallway at the entrance where framed paintings and drawings, obviously made by kids, hang on the wall as he passed by.
The smile on his face didn’t cease while looking at the masterpieces. Each drawing is messy and abstract, in a way, yet, each is unique, simple and colorful. He may not understand the meaning of these drawings, but the thought that these kids, who were abandoned by those who brought them to the world, made these happy and vibrant works, amazed and inspired him greatly. These children were left by their parents to be alone in a place where they don’t have a person they know, but despite that, they still have positive thoughts, judging from how they did their art.
For once, he wishes he could go back to being a child, where he is oblivious to everything and all he wanted was to play, play, and play. He wishes he could go back to the times when he doesn’t have to think about such complicated problems and the most complicated one he has was his candy being stolen by a playmate.
At the back of his mind, he badly wishes that Kyuhyun would be given the chance to go back to being a child, even just for a day, and enjoy its wonders without having to experience the cruelty of his past. He knows it is one thing that Kyuhyun lacked that’s why it led him to being what he is right now.
After young boys and (squealing) girls went to greet Jongwoon, the latter pulls him to another hallway, where there are less children running. They stop in front of an opened blue door, where there is a toddler, whose back is facing them, sitting on the play mat. He doesn’t know why, but even if he just saw his back, there’s this weird feeling of attachment to the young one.
He wonders why he thought of Kyuhyun when he realized that the baby is alone.
“From the first time I saw him, I wanted to have you meet him.” He watches Jongwoon walk closer to the baby and carry him, smiling once again as he hears the toddler squeal and hug Jongwoon’s neck using one arm because of the bunny plushy occupying his other arm.
“Come here, Min.”
He obliges and slowly steps towards the two other boys, his eyes slightly widening as he takes a clearer and nearer view of the boy in his hyung’s arms.
Eyes, nose, lips and hair… he had seen those from someone he knows, but he just can’t remember who. But when the baby smiles at him, it clicked on him.
He saw that someone on the mirror.
“He looks like you, right?” Jongwoon inquires, confirming his thoughts. His lips slightly parted in awe, he slowly nods, still eyeing the giggling baby. He thinks he could see his baby self on the younger, especially at the sight of the bunny in his arm. Man, he saw in his pictures that he looked similar to this boy when he was a baby. Did his mom give birth recently?
“Sungmin, this is Sandeul,” Holy bunnies, their names both start in ‘S.’ “And Deullie, this is Sungmin-hyung.”
Sandeul then squeals and stretches his pudgy arms to him, shaking the bunny. Without hesitation, he carries the young one, feeling that a new, and cute, relationship is formed.
He learned that 6-month old Sandeul is the youngest and newest baby in the orphanage. The social worker in Busan, whom Jongwoon really knew since he was in middle school, brought the baby just a week ago. He also discovered that Sandeul’s mother committed suicide in front of the poor baby because of his father. Said father got jailed for abusing his wife and his son. The maltreatment caused Sandeul to shy away from other people, and Jongwoon was really lucky to be liked by Sandeul… and now, he is added to the list of people Sandeul is fond of.
He has a clue now as to why he thought of Kyuhyun when he saw Sandeul.
They tried having Sandeul to mingle with the other kids close to his age by playing with them at the playroom since most of them can hardly walk as well. The babies are so cute and cheerful, so he really is having fun taking care and playing with them, and he sees that Sandeul is having fun, too. He’s still quite distant, but it’s a step forward for he’s not ignoring them anymore.
On the contrary, what made him frown is when Kyuhyun called him.
“Yes?” he answers quite lazily.
“Where are you?”
He glances at Jongwoon, smiling as he watches Sandeul roll on Jongwoon’s lap. “I’m with Jongwoon-hyung.”
“The fuck?!” he hears Kyuhyun scream from the other line. Knowing that he’ll argue with Kyuhyun, he runs out of the house and stays near the playground which is void of innocent angels for the meantime.
He sighs before replying, “Why am I not allowed to meet with Jongwoon-hyung when you’re allowed to with that… that bamboo stick?”
Kyuhyun’s tone goes softer, but desperate. “Why are you bringing that topic back again? For the nth time, Sungmin, Zhou Mi is just in the past.”
“Right.” He sarcastically retorts while rolling his eyes.
Kyuhyun sighs. “I’ll pick you up. Where are you?”
“Can’t I be with him for a while? I rarely see Jongwoon-hyung.”
“My parents will be settling in here permanently, and they’re throwing a party for family and friends this afternoon.”
“And why am I coming?”
“Because Kim Ryeowook told them that you are now my boyfriend so they badly want to see you again.” …oh. Of course, Ryeowook would do that.
He can’t reject Kangin and Leeteuk. They are such great people and they were so nice to him back then. As much as he doesn’t want to come because of Kyuhyun being his date, he has to agree to this. He doesn’t want to disappoint the couple.
“I’m at the orphanage near the central park. Don’t drive too fast. I don’t want to see you so soon and I’m having fun here. Bye.”
“Sung-”
Another sigh escapes his lips as he ends the call. He feels bad for doing it to Kyuhyun, still, his anger towards him and that Chinese is still fresh in his mind and heart, especially because of how he felt when the two ignored him though he was just there beside them.
He swings slowly as he stares on to nothingness. The fresh air at the playground brings him a sense of peace; something he hadn’t gotten since Kyuhyun’s arrival in his life.
He wants Sandeul to meet Kyuhyun. Actually, he had thoughts that Sandeul is their son because of the baby’s similarities to the both of them.
“What are you thinking of?” Jongwoon’s voice startles him. He sees Sandeul reaching for him, so he stands up and gets his look-alike from Jongwoon before sitting back on the swing.
“Kyuhyun called.” He says after Jongwoon sat on the swing beside him.
Silence envelopes them for a moment. The creaking of the swing, Sandeul’s coos and the faint laughter of the children from the house are the only audible things.
Although they are in an open area he feels suffocated. He doesn’t like the feeling of waiting for Jongwoon to speak next. He hates it when Jongwoon is silent for it just meant that he is angry or sad.
“Are you… are you two in a…” Jongwoon’s question was barely a whisper. He could pretend that he hadn’t heard it to avoid answering it. He may not have completed his sentence, but he knew what he meant by that. Sure, he doesn’t want to give the older false hopes, but he can’t hurt him… not now. Not now that he’s working for a music video shoot which theme is something happy.
Besides, there is nothing to lie about yet. “No.” Kyuhyun and him aren’t in a relationship, right?
“Then, why…?”
He strokes Sandeul’s hair while explaining, “I was introduced to his parents with Donghae before because Hae wants me to be with him when the meet-the-parents happen. The couple liked us, and now, they’re inviting us to attend a party they’ll throw for tonight.” That was kind of not a lie.
“Why do you look so down now? Shouldn’t you be happy?”
He glances at Jongwoon, and sees him looking straight in front of him. Jongwoon definitely doesn’t want him to see his emotions, but judging from the weak voice, he knows Jongwoon is hurting. Also, the way Jongwoon said it was sarcastic. Jealousy.
“He wants to pick me up right now, but I don’t want to because I promised you that I’ll go watch your shoot.” White lies.
Jongwoon’s cheeks flush, but he obviously succeeds in staying calm. He suppresses a smile from forming on his lips.
“Y-You can go. It’s not like it’s the only music video that I’ll shoot.” Gee, hyung is such a martyr.
“it’s not like it’s the only party that they’ll have. I’d rather watch you sing and pose than watch socialites talk to each other.”
Jongwoon’s ears turned red.
After a few more conversations, mostly about the similar hue of their hair, they notice a black car parking in front of the orphanage’s gate. They may not know what brand of car it is, but he instantly knew it is Kyuhyun’s.
His guess is confirmed as Kyuhyun and Shindong enter the gate, frowning when he saw the guard bowing. It’s not an unusual, but it annoys him.
“Why are you holding a baby? Who is that? Why does he look like you? Is he-” were Kyuhyun’s first questions.
He controls the urge to roll his eyes. “This is an orphanage, Kyuhyun. This baby is Sandeul. And no, he’s not my brother, nephew and son. Purely coincidental.” He raises the boy to stand on his lap, supporting the younger by the armpit. “Deullie, say hi to Kyuhyun-hyung~”
However, Sandeul is glaring at Kyuhyun, and to his shock, Kyuhyun glares back. So much for thinking that Kyuhyun can be Sandeul father (cos he’s obviously the mother). He is surprised that Sandeul did not like Kyuhyun, thinking that the two had the same experience.
Sighing, he gives Sandeul to Jongwoon, asking the older to bring the little one inside. Jongwoon does as what he was asked without any questions.
He giggles as he notices Sandeul still shooting glares at Kyuhyun. He should tell the baby not to do that again because it’s bad, but he finds it cute to do that.
His face turns serious as he faces Kyuhyun.
“What time will the party start?”
Kyuhyun stops narrowing his eyes at the kid to look at him. “7pm.”
Perfect. “Can I watch Jongwoon-hyung’s MV shoot?”
“No.”
He pouts.
“No.”
“You can come if you want to.”
Silence.
“We won’t stay long. I just want to watch how he works,” but Kyuhyun remains silent. “Please?” When Kyuhyun’s expression softens, that’s when he knew that he hit the spot. He hears Kyuhyun sigh.
“Fine. But umma doesn’t appreciate tardiness, so we’ll go home at 5 to prepare.”
“5?! 6.”
“5.”
“6. Please?”
“Sungmin, it’s just 3pm! 3 hours isn’t ‘not long’!”
He pouts again. “5:30?”
Kyuhyun didn’t say anything, but he knows it’s a yes. Oh how he loves it when he’s in control of Kyuhyun.
They ended up leaving the set at 5, though.
All throughout the taping, Kyuhyun was sulking. He had his arms crossed, he was almost glaring at the staffs, especially Jongwoon, and he was almost sending him puppy eyes.
As much as he wants to stay and deliberately make Kyuhyun suffer by letting him watch Jongwoon, who is the brunet’s considered greatest rival, he gave in and agreed to go home earlier. He understands that Kyuhyun is tired and he needs to get some rest before going to the party.
Still, now that they are inside Kyuhyun’s parents’ mansion, Kyuhyun is lifeless, no matter how many naps he took during the taping. It is so unlikely of him to be like this when his family is around.
“Sungmin, you came!” He sees Leeteuk, dressed in an elegant white tuxedo, walking towards them. The dimpled man hugs him warmly before hugging his adopted son. Kangin, who looks dashing in a black and gray Americana suit, follows his husband as soon as he saw them, too.
“I knew you and Kyuhyunnie would end up together!” Kyuhyun’s foster ‘mother’ exclaims excitedly. He just grins sheepishly and chooses not to say anything. Their youngest son merely shrugs and wraps an arm on his waist.
He blushes at the act of affection from his ‘boyfriend.’ Though he knows Kyuhyun did that so others will not notice that they are not in good terms, currently.
“Because baby maknae here is tired, Youngwoon~” another person joins in the conversation, followed by a smaller man jumping beside him and hugs him. He smiles at his dongsaeng.
“Look, Sungminnie looks flushed~” he blushes more, which is intensified by Ryeowook’s giggle.
“Geez, shut up, Chul,” Leeteuk says in disgust, making the red-haired psychiatrist laugh. “We’ll leave you guys for now. We’ll just attend to some friends. Behave, Heechul.”
“Yes, ma’am!” Heechul playfully salutes to his colleague while they watch the couple to walk then talk to the guests.
“Good evening, Sungminnie~ can you still walk?” Heechul asks him in a sing-song tune, making his ears color a deep shade of red.
“Y-Yes, hyung…” he shyly answers.
“Hyung? Wait, you know him?” Kyuhyun asks him before staring at Heechul like he’s naked in a formal party. He looks at his date, confused; he thought Heechul told the guy already that they know each other.
Heechul rolls his eyes and retorts sarcastically, “No, Cho Kyuhyun, he doesn’t know me. Hi, I’m Kim Heechul.” Kyuhyun snorts.
Then, a man who doesn’t look like a Korean stands beside Heechul, causing for the latter to squeal lightly and hug the tall stranger’s arm. “Sungmin-ah, he’s Tan Hangeng, my boyfriend. Oh, and he’s Chinese.” The doctor playfully eyes Kyuhyun, who just looked away calmly.
Fuck, it hurts.
And so the introduction and a bit of chatting started. It went on for almost five minutes. Ryeowook and Heechul mostly do the talking. As usual, he and Kyuhyun were silent, and Hangeng just smiled and nodded whenever he agreed on something.
“Sungmin-hyung!” Ryeowook screams from beside him that he almost got deaf. “I got Yesung-ssi’s number!” It earns him a groan from Kyuhyun and the brunet walks away from them, with Hangeng following him to talk about some business matters with the maknae.
He giggles at the cute reaction of Kyuhyun before turning to Kyuhyun’s older brother. “You could have just asked me for it, Wookie.”
“But I want to get it through my own efforts, and tadaaahh~” Ryeowook says while showing Sungmin the screen of the phone flashing Yesung’s number.
He is about to say something, but the sight of a particular person he never expected to be present caught his attention.
“What is he doing here?” he unconsciously mumbles, but it is loud enough to be heard by the other two males with him. He sees Ryeowook frown.
Heechul speaks, “He’s a colleague of Leeteuk from college,” the psychiatrist then lowers his voice so that only him could hear the next thing that he will say. “Look, he knows you are Kyuhyun’s current Submissive. Avoid him as much as possible. He’ll scare you away, just like what he did to Kyuhyun’s previous Subs.”
He whispers back, “Not scared, hyung”
A smirk forms on Heechul’s lips and before they know it, they could already see Zhou Mi walking towards them.
“Can I borrow Sungmin-ssi for a while?” the red-haired Chinese asks.
“No.” Ryeowook quickly answers. From the look of the younger’s face, he deduces that Ryeowook doesn’t like Zhou Mi, even though he most probably is oblivious to his brother and this man’s past.
He smiles at Ryeowook. “It’s okay, Wookie. I’ll join you and Heechul-hyung later.”
“You sure?”
He nods. Heechul holds Ryeowook’s arm and winks at him before pulling the younger man with him to join Kyuhyun and Hangeng.
After making sure that Heechul and Ryeowook wouldn’t be able to hear them, Zhou Mi speaks in a low, but bitchy voice.
“I heard you’ve been giving Kyuhyun problems. What a bad boy.”
He stops himself from snorting, so he smirks instead to show that he’s not intimidated by a bit. “If I’m bad, then you’re evil.”
Veins appear on the taller man’s forehead, his eyebrows slowly meeting, “You insolent brat-”
“Am I not right?” he cuts the older man, having this feeling of pride in him that he’s in control.
The Chinese smirks back at him, crossing his arms, while twirling the wine glass in between his slender fingers. “I’ve never given Kui Xian headaches, unlike you.”
He shivers slightly at the sound of the name Kui Xian. “I’d rather give him headaches to make him feel he’s still human than to give him heartaches that caused for him to be this wrecked.” His smirk widens.
Zhou Mi chuckles lightly, shaking his head. “He loves what I gave him, darling.”
He playfully imitates the older’s action a while ago, grinning inwardly when he sees Zhou Mi frown. “Oh, don’t worry, I will make him hate what you gave him, old man.”
“I don’t like you.”
“Good. I don't like you either.”
