This is so beautiful in its gloriously artificial way.

Thank you! It's such a strange movie, beautiful and strange and ugly in parts it doesn't always intend and so very visual, like a silent film that happens to have dialogue and be drunk on colour.

I liked it

No idea what the film is about. But the moods I got was, freedom longing, repressed sexuality, the "other/alien" is pushing in.

Yes, pushing - there's a line the head nun uses in the scene when she's talking about not being able to hide the mountain where she also describes the world 'thrusting' in behind the young general (the titular character who I didn't include in the vid). But the movie's ambiguous about otherness, on the surface it's the place that's alien and the Europeans attempt to bring order and regularity to it, to normalise things but by the end it feel as if they (we) are the other, the alien invaders who try to reject the world and fail, are rejected by it.

I've been meaning to tell you how much I love this vid. It makes me want to rewatch the movie -- the vid brings out all the strangeness and beauty, and the song choice is excellent. Lovely and haunting.
