End of the Year meme

Dec 31, 2009 22:37

I am officially sick and have sat in bed all day with only the occasional rising to get fluids or use the facilities, as my head hurts and spins very badly when I do so. So, while sitting here, waiting for the new-year nutcases to make noise at midnight, I did this!

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?

I gave out all of the cranes I folded as baby gifts. (I fold sets of 1000) I didn't quite know what I was going to do with them before this year. That seemed like a good option. Besides, they're very well appreciated. I had about 10 of them lying around at the end of the last academic year... See how fidgety I get?

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't know that I had any at the end of last year. Just be happy, I suppose. For the mostpart, I was, but the summer and the beginning of the 2009-10 school year was less than chipper.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Remember what I said about the cranes? Yeah, up there in No. 1. They're all gone now.Lots of babies.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Not yet, but there are a few that are as good as dead.

5. What countries did you visit?

I wanted to, but wanting and having are two completely different animals.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?

A job. Money. A steady relationship that doesn't involve deceit. It would be nice to have those things.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I'm very Buddhist in the way that I don't keep track of the dates. What has passed, has passed, and what will happen has yet to come. I don't continue to worry about them after they've happened.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Passing all of my classes last year and coming out of my freshman year of college with a 3.40 GPA.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I write little these days and draw even less. Shame on me.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I've had colds or some kind of bug on and off since the beginning of the school year, and that's really been putting a cramp in my style. I'm not quite sure why, but maybe the viruses are just figuring out how to outsmart my body's awesome natural defenses. Seriously, I almost never get sick. This year's nuts!

11. What was the best thing you bought?

A shitload of DVDs from a closeout liquidation of the Blockbuster near my house.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My friend Bree. She's been an awesome outlet for me this year, and has really been something steady for me at school. I feel quite blessed, but am also sad since it's her last year in the House, and I'm gonna miss her when she's not there next year.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

All of the roommates I had while still living in the dorms last academic year, and my would-be boyfriend's. (ASSHOLE!!!) I had three roommates last year, all one of the following: homicidal, insane, or severely hygiene challenged. The asshole I loved deceived and lied to me and eventually broke my heart when I had to find out from someone else that he was going out with another girl. He didn't even have the courtesy to break up with me properly.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Tuition and food. I eat a lot for my tiny little self.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Going home for the holidays. I love seeing my mom, and really miss my cats when I'm away at school. My house doesn't allow pets. No, I don't live in a sorority, I live in cooperative housing.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?

"Breathe In, Breathe Out" by Mat Kearney, "Fools In Love" by Inara George, "Never Bloom Again" by The Perishers, "My Heart With You" by The Rescues, "Twice" by Little Dragon, and "Nowhere Warm" by Kate Havnevik. All awesome songs.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Probably a bit sadder. Disillusioned a better description.
ii. thinner or fatter? Much thinner. I forget to eat far too often.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer. Life sneaks up on you sometimes...

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Reading, making art, exploring self-expression.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Feeling like a useless human being.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with my mom and cats. Christmas day was not as eventful as Christmas Eve, though. I played at two services, as I play French Horn, and was very tired by the time the grand day rolled around.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?

Unfortunately, yes, and got crushed by it. Love has not been my friend.

23. How many one-night stands?

One, and not a likely thing that I'll repeat. I'm not much for the sex without the relationship part.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Torchwood, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, House, and FlashForward.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I've gotten past the hating part, but the boy. The one who broke me. Yeah, I hated him for a good long while.

26. What was the best book you read?

My Goat Ate Its Own Legs by Ales Burrett. It's hilarious, in short. A collection of short stories with a deliciously sarcastic and humorous take on adult humor.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

The Rescues

28. What did you want and get?

A job, a boyfriend, a newer iPod.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Avatar, with Star Trek XI following at a very close second. I'm just blown away by that movie right now.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I am now at the double-decade mark, 20, and I went home for my birthday. Ended up spending near $50 on movies from the aforementioned Blockbuster sellout. Was very cool. Would've been better if I didn't nearly go broke about a week later.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

No betrayals, fewer crises, less illness, no insane people.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?

Jeans, jackets, hats, long underwear and various formal wear for concerts. Lots of orange and black for school events.

34. What kept you sane?

My mom, moving into a much better living situation, going home when I could, and lots of little-kid Disney movies.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Johnny Depp, as always, and recently Chris Pine. I mean, who couldn't?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Probably the Socialized Medicine plan. I'm very torn on that issue.

37. Who did you miss?

My mom, and all my friends from back home who I don't get to see very often, or anymore at all.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Friends Bree, Tosh, Kate and Rachel. (Two Rachels, actually.)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:

Look before you leap, and don't take the piss. Don't let other's trick you into believing something if you really didn't want to.

real life, meme, i just learned something new
