Chapter 10:

After his confrontation with Nino, Jun was confused as to what to do. His head was pounding from the adrenaline that rushed through his veins, his lungs were inhaling and exhaling so rapidly that it hurts, but most important of all, his heart felt like it was being stomped on before being ripped into thousands of pieces.

How did things end up like this? It wasn’t part of his plan. He was supposed to get that job with the renowned kimono company, earn enough money to take Nino home with him and they’ll live happily ever after with their son. But no, Nino just had to ruin it all. Not only had Nino given him false hopes about having children, he had also hurt him in ways he never thought anybody could.

Just when he thought he had found the one, it was all just a scam. He could never love someone who betrayed him like that. Even if that someone had the most adorable smile he had ever seen. Even if the way that someone looked at him was enough to melt him completely. Even if that someone made him feel so strong yet so weak.

Jun gripped his hair, head too heavy to even think straight. What was he going on about? He could never like Nino after what he did. That’s right. It’ll just be like they’ve never met. He’ll go home, pack his things and leave. Determined to leave this town behind, Jun made a dash for the agency’s exit. However, just as he made the turn, a fist came his way, knocking him squarely on the cheek, causing him to fall flat on the floor.

“Sho-chan, please don’t” he heard somebody whine.

Jun looked up to find the agency’s physician hovering over him, the receptionist holding the bigger man back.

“You make me sick,” spat the physician, glaring daggers at the designer, “You were supposed to take care of Nino! How could you let him get hurt?!”

The designer scrambled to his feet, ready to fight it out with the physician if he had to. He wasn’t going to be made a fool of as well as being yelled at.

“Take care of that lying slut?” roared Jun, sending a punch Sho’s way, “How stupid do you think I am?”

“How dare you called Nino that?” cried Sho, now grabbing onto Jun’s collar, “It was hard enough for him to lose his child, you didn’t have to hurt his feelings?”

“Nino never carried my child in the first place!”

Jun could literally feel the heat radiating from Sho as the physician threw another punch his way which sent him flying a few feet back.

“He had a miscarriage, you idiot!” roared Sho, his anger definitely overshooting the scale, “You said you would protect him but you still let those bastards beat him up!”

Holding his throbbing cheek, Jun didn’t know what to believe. His father and Nino had told him one thing, but Sho was telling him another. They couldn’t both be right. Jun was so confused. Right now, all he wanted was the truth, but that starts with clearing his head. Darting pass Sho and Ohno, Jun left the agency grounds in search of what really happened.

His father was the last to see Nino before everything became so wrong, so that’s where he’ll start.

“Back at last, Jun?” said his father the moment he entered, “Did you manage to get some of the money back?”

Jun shook his head. So much had happened that Jun didn’t remember to demand a refund.

“At least I taught that kid a lesson,” smirked Mr Matsumoto, “let’s see if he dares to swindle again,”

“What do you mean ‘taught him a lesson’?”

“That kid tried cheating us of our money,” said Mr Matsumoto solemnly, “I had my men beat him up. That will teach him!”

Jun froze. It all made sense to him now. The designer wasn’t stupid. That was all he needed to put two and two together to know what really happened. His father had thought Nino was a fake and had his men beat him up. That was what caused Nino to miscarry. How could he have been so stupid! And he had called Nino all sorts of names without even finding out the truth.

Furious with himself, Jun ran back to the agency as fast as he could. He knew he had to deal with his father at some point, but right now, Nino was more important. He had to see Nino. He had to tell him that everything was a huge misunderstanding. He just needed Nino back in his life.

Like earlier that day, Jun burst into the agency and was about to head straight to Nino’s chambers when he saw the fuming physician blocking his way.

“I have to see Nino,” Jun blurted out before either Sho or Ohno could ask.

“Nino doesn’t want to see you,” snarled Sho, arms folded as he and Jun engaged in a glaring competition.

“But I have to see him!” shouted Jun, trying to push his way through. However, his lean frame was no match for Sho’s muscular build, “Please….” cried Jun, literally on his knees begging Sho to let him enter. He would have stayed like that until Sho gave way if the gentle receptionist had not stepped forward.

“Nino is resting,” said Ohno soothingly, “And he has a client tomorrow. It’s best if you just leave and pretend nothing ever happened,”

Ohno’s words seeped into Jun, making the designer hate himself even more. He knew Ohno was right. He had one chance with Nino and he screwed it up. Besides, like had had been warned at the start, this was only business.

Slowly getting to his feet, Jun turned around with his head hung. He didn’t feel like going home now, knowing that was the very place where Nino had been beaten. There was nowhere else for him to go. Wandering the market place, the devil in Jun told him that what he needed was something to make him forget, so entering the local pub, Jun sat himself at the counter before asking for the strongest booze they had.

Two bottles of that stuff later, Jun was still not feeling as drunk as he would like to. He was still thinking about how he had messed up everything. He could still feel the stab in his heart. He could still hear that group of noisy men celebrating some event that he really didn’t care about.

“Once again, congratulations, Mr Arashi!” cried one of those men at the table.

“It’s hard to believe that you managed to get a slot at JE!” laughed another, clearly drunk.

“It is my good fortune,” beamed the center of attention, “I’m going to be a father!”

“Which one did you get?” asked the first.

Mr Arashi hiccupped. Wiping his mouth with the back of his sleeve, he grinned, “The cute one…”

The men at the table burst out laughing, clapping Mr Arashi on the back. Whilst the men celebrated, they were unaware of the pair of eyes glaring at them from the bar. Jun replaced the beer bottle on the counter as he tried to process what he had heard. This man, Mr Arashi…he was Nino’s next client? Jun remembered that man from some time ago. He was the owner of a kimono store who had begged him for his designs, while Jun refused because of the unappealing contract.

But now…

Stumbling up to the group, Jun banged his fist on the table to get their attention as he stared at the kimono store owner, “I have an offer for you,”
