Help support the renewal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965- Specifically Section 5 which expires in 2007. Section 5 protects voters against discrimination at the polls and is also a provision that makes it manditory if a minority population is over 5% in a congressional district, the district must print a ballot in that language. With the pending GOP cloture vote set for Monday, NOW is the time to act to save the civil liberties of our nation including a woman's right to choose. The Senate GOP needs 60 votes to cloture the Democrats filibuster of Alito and move his nomination to the floor. We, as citizens of America must not let this happen. "Mean Gene" Eugene McCarthy, Nominee for the Democratic Nomination for President in 1968 has died today. This is a sad day for America. He was a true leader of the Anti-Vietnam movement and caused divisions within the Democratic Party in 1968. With the Reform Ohio now initiative down the drain due to the rhetoric of the GOP southern Ohio, hope of election reform look as though it may not be possible. With a vote of nearly 60 to 70% against issues 2, 3, 4, and 5, it shows that an Ohio '04 election or a Florida '00 election could happen again. Oh yes, Amanda met Howard Dean today in her journey to the DNC. He is absolutely amazing when you are standing 5 feet away from him. He's so much more energetic then on TV, and even then he gives off a lot of energy. It was awe inspiring, truly. It gave me a lot of hope for the Democratic leadership for this country.
