I had my communicator volume up too far. Thanks for the reminder to turn it down.
[If Roger's expression is sour, it's probably because of the distinctly bronze little creature on his shoulder; it just woke up now and is busy screeching and flapping its wings furiously as it tries to hold on.]
Nah, it's groovy.first_of_steelMay 24 2010, 20:16:20 UTC
Magnum. Good to see you again.
There was a classified ad a while ago offering eggs of a hexapodal endothermic species for adoption. I took one. Apparently they're called fire lizards. [He winces a little as the creature manages to steady itself by grabbing hold of his ear.] This one's only recently hatched.
[He has to make a number of wild assumptions based on that unfamiliar terminology, but ends up with something pretty close to the truth.] Its just been brought online, then. And you chose to be its caretaker?
Primus, it must be microscopic...[Given how small it was compared to Roger, and how small Roger was compared to him... Still, it is fascinating, in its own way.]
The species develops inside a shell laid by a female of its kind. When it reaches the right level of development it becomes active enough to break out of the shell. Apparently it bonds with whoever first feeds it- excuse me-
[It's awake. Therefore it's hungry. Lucky thing Roger anticipated this and has a bowl of something he's almost sure is sliced roast beef at hand.]
My apologies. They spend the first week or so sleeping and eating, from what I've been told. It'll make a better companion once it's older.
We've had them in one form or another since the dawn of human civilization. I had several when I was younger. My-
[He hasn't mentioned his son to anyone here. He's not about to break that streak just yet.]
Oh yes. Some kind of empathic bond- they told us about this first. The fire lizard feels what its bond-mate feels, emotionally and maybe some physically. And the bond-mate feels what the lizard feels. Even if he was in another room I'd know when he was awake or hungry.
...that sounds very much like a Cybertronian bond. [He tries to keep the surprise out of his voice, but some ekes in anyhow.] I was not aware there was a way to duplicate that through organic means.
I wonder if they communicate the same to mechanoids...? [...now he's starting to wish he knew more about sciences. Its...not so important, though. He doesn't have to, if he can HIRE people to.]
I sent plans for the incubators necessary to keep their eggs warm enough to hatch to a couple of Cybertronian addresses. There's probably at least one or two Cybertronians out there who could tell you whether they made the same bond by now- the eggs in one clutch usually hatch at the same time, at least with Earth creatures.
Not that I can think of, but the only one I can remember off the top of my head was... I think his name was Optarus. I'd have to check my records to see who else.

[He's still observing, because this has not ceased to be interesting yet.]
Please forgive my inquiries, but...bonds?

Thankyou, Roger. I will not pester you further.
