work, like exam, is a four-letter word.

had a blast with my classes as always. this week i thought we'd deal with the proverbial dilemma of work versus leisure and how many writers angst about this existential question since time immemorial.

thinking they wouldn't relate in all their 17 year old sensibilities, I asked them what their dream jobs were, which elicited a gamut of giggles from 'astronaut' to 'pimp'. of course some unintentionally drew laughter when they said accountant or human resource manager. really? sadly though as i rounded up their ideas, most identified that work rarely entails a dream but drudgery. i was like, hello, planet cynical, but as an after-thought, you can't blame them for such a perspective when their very parents have become slaves to the grind (and system). why do i foresee mass emigration in the next decade?

anyway, we discussed how work can bring both empowerment and debasement, depending on the job environment and purview. so i shared that my job thrived on the rewards of being in class, like i can think of (insert number of students) reasons why i love my job haha to collective awwws but i guess i feel absolutely comfortable with this lot. they've a certain maturity coupled with a naive acceptance of your irregularities. that's why i revel in teaching this level and age because they're all on the brink of some real learning yet have enough understanding of the world to process what you share.

haha -end gush-. the P just called me into the office while a couple of co-workers and i were talking smack about local and internal politics. so we wondered if the cctv cameras in the canteen could also pick out sound haha paranoid alert. turns out she just wanted to inform me about my medical review from headquarters.cheh
