Chapter 6-Vale of Tears

Arthur arrived in a completely new environment. He looked around to check his surroundings and saw Matthew in the distance running up the side of a water fall.

Arthur made his way up the side of the cliff, dodging the rocks that were falling. Once he neared the top he noticed Ants in uniforms at the top of the cliff throwing the rocks. Arthur shuddered, ants were annoying when you’re big, he knew these would be a bit more to handle since he was roughly their size.

From a distance Arthur threw his knife killing one ant, and ran over to kill the other. While fighting the one ant, Arthur’s arms suddenly bound themselves and he felt as if somebody was lifting him off the ground. He looked to see another ant picking him up and carrying him.
The ant moved its head back and to the side, Arthur struggled, his knife slicing the side of the ants face, before the ant threw him across the field.

Arthur skidded across the ground, letting go of his knife so he couldn’t stab himself. The two ants walked over and blocked Arthur’s path to the knife.

He remembered the croquet mallet that Alfred gave him, Alfred had hung on to it for safe keeping and to make sure Arthur traveled light.

He summoned the mallet and charged over to beat the two bugs.

The ants were laying in a pool of their own blood as Arthur picked up his knife and put away the mallet.

Arthur followed the stream to its source and noticed a figure in the distance.

A girl laid on the ground crying, her fingers were webbed, and she has a small set of horns on her head. She was dressed in nothing but under garments. Arthur caught himself staring at the bright pink flower in her hair, amongst other things. A sign that some good still existed in this world.

“What’s all this about? Did someone die? Did you lose your family?” Arthur asked soothingly. The smallish girl looked up at Arthur.

“No, it’s my shell! The Duchess stole it and tired to eat me for lunch!” She sobbed, “The nobility must be served, I suppose...” The girl wiped her tears away, though more just formed in her eyes. She began crying louder.

“Stop that crying, won’t you? Girls like you shouldn’t cry.” Arthur said sternly, though he hadn’t meant to.

“You’re very cold blooded for a human, aren’t you? I was almost soup!” She said sobering up.
“I know it must be very hard on you, I’m sure. But, I’m a bit pressed for time. Have you seen a boy with rabbit ears come by?”Arthur asked.

“Hmmm...Twitching nose? Shifty eyes? Always looking at a pocket watch? Most interesting creature...”

“Well he’s very dear to me, I must find him!”

“Yao can help! I’m quite certain that he knows everything there is to know.”

“And where’s that high bastard hang his hookah these days?” The girl looked hurt.

“Since the troubles in Wonderland began, he’s in hiding. I couldn’t risk telling anyone where he’s at...without something in return.” The girl smirked. Arthur sighed.

“Risk nothing, gain nothing.”

“Alright, his whereabouts then...in return I want my shell back! I should warn you, the Duchess won’t part with it willingly.”

“Then she must do it unwillingly, I’ll teach her proper manners.”

“You certainly are brave! But, here’s another warning. She treats everything like prey!”

“That’s fine, more of a challenge I suppose.” The wind blew knocking some loose leaves to falls. The girl jumped on one and floated down the path, Arthur quickly followed.

Arthur clung to the sides of his leaf boat, the rapids were dangerous for somebody who wasn’t used to swimming. He raced down the rapids to follow the odd girl.

After a few minutes of struggles to stay in the leaf, as it was moving down the river, Arthur finally arrived to his destination. He approached the hours that was embedded in a tree.

“Psst! Over here!” Called a boy no older than his late teens, with a strong accent. Arthur judged his appearance, he had a lizard feel to him.

“Don’t...I know...you?” Arthur asked carefully.

“Oh, Arthur such a joker! It’s Jack! Don’cha remember? Do ya’ have any brandy, mate?”

“No, only my wits.” Though Arthur did wonder if having some would help him out.

“Then you have nothing! Wits are useless here! Everything’s down-side up!”

“I must see the Duchess...” Arthur tried telling Jack.

“Impossible! The Duchess only sees those who don’t want to see her.”

“That’s not right...” Arthur frowned.

“It’s perfect, really. She’s supposed to be hiding from the Red King, who wants her dead.”

“Her head?!” Arthur placed a hand to his neck. Jack sighed.

“That too...Ruins my home; builds this monstrosity. She’s mad as monkey mash, and just as tasteless. Well...Never mind...We’ll all perish soon enough. You sure you don’t have any brandy?”

“Quite positive...But, I’m here to retrieve the...uhm, I didn’t get her name, but her shell. I won’t leave without it!”

“Really now! Aren’cha the brave one, I suppose I could let you in. Follow me!” Jack began to lead the way. Jack walked up to the doors took one look at the shaking pieces of wood, and took off screaming.

“No! Wait-”The doors swung inside and the air sucked Arthur in like a vacuum. Arthur screamed and he flew in doors.

~!A/N!~
Taiwan = Mock Turtle. The Mock Turtle is a very depressing creature, always crying. But in McGee's Alice he's more worried about things than depressed. Which is why I chose Taiwan. Also The reason She's in nothing but underclothes is because that's how the Mock Turtle appears in the game, nothing but briefs. > 3> The shell that's his clothes. xD; So yeah.

Australia = Bill the Lizard, He's the one in the movies that crawls in through the White Rabbit's chimney when Alice grew in size while inside the Rabbit's house. Bill, is a bit of a drunkard, he asks for brandy a lot in the book. Also my headcanon name for Australia is Jack.

So yes, next chapter will have the Duchess in it. 8D FIRST BOSS BATTLE. 8D And Yes I'm using a female nation. So I'm sure its pretty easy to guess who it is. xD
