Tempted to use the LJ/DW mood field but I have some conflicting emotions

Spent the whole day out at brunch and then coffee with friends. However I did make time to see this:

That was very, very good.

Oh, Jennifer Lawrence. You were so very close to perfect. Team Katniss forever. <3!

The one criticism I do have is that near the end she didn't seem quite as resistant to loving it up with Peeta as I remember in the book. Maybe I just missed something, but overall, she was fucking amazing.

Lenny Kravitz was awesome as Cinna. Love Cinna. Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Banks were great too.

Donald Sutherland wasn't quite creepy enough as President Snow though. I know he gets even creepier in the later books and they put more of him in this (which I did like, showing more of the back-ground to the Games was an awesome idea and ooh, pretty UI scenes) but in my head he's sort of other-world-ly creepy and here he was not. Am I also influenced by Donald Sutherland playing Mr Bennett in Pride and Prejudice? Perhaps. It needed to be more Malcolm MacDowell playing that dude that he played in Heroes ... he was creepy in the way I imagine President Snow is.

I did imagine Haymitch as drunker too and more well, for lack of a better phrase, Hagrid looking? But Woody Harellson did a good job and I liked seeing the behind the scene bargaining he did.

I didn't mean to leave Josh to the end, but he played Peeta well, even if my friend did say on the way out, 'I thought he would have been well ... hotter.' A little harsh on Josh there. He's not that bad. ;)

Rue - :(:( - the bit I knew I was going to cry at and uh, yup. The bit with the flowers. Oy. I kinda missed the little moment where Katniss gets the cakes from District 11 but it wasn't really necessary. The girl who played Rue was great too.

Visually I really liked how they created the difference between District 12 and the Capitol and it's many, many colours.

One thing that did sort of bug me: there was no explanation of the hand signal. You didn't see why it was so significant that Katniss did it and why District 11 rose up.

The movie theatre was completely full which was surprisingly fine and also brought us this hilarious moment:

Gale: *Epic Sad Face*
Teenage Girls in the Front: *audible high-pitched awww*
People (okay my friend and I) in the back: HAHAHA

It really was pretty hilarious.

There was also quite a bit of clapping when Katniss shot the guy who killed Rue. Which, well, fair call.

Bring on Catching Fire.

And then this when i got home:

Oh Fringe. I'm not sure quite how I feel about that.

First off, I was kinda bored by the main plot and there was a lot of it to be bored by. Just, a lot of it.

Second: Olivia. I think I need more time to think about this but these are my initial thoughts: I get that 'but this is the blue verse all along' is the logical story choice, and you can't go home again blah blah, but part of me doesn't like this for either blue or amber Olivia. Amber Olivia's choice to be a better version of herself because of Peter (mirroring Olivia thinking Altlivia is better?) and Blue Olivia just not existing at all. Well, no, I guess she does, but at a cost. I don't know - I just feel weird about it.

I did however feel more positively about the Olivia and Nina relationship than I ever had before. Not a high bar if I'm being honest but that scene at the end did pull on the heart-strings.

Would I be okay if Walter started getting his memories back too? Maybe. The difference in Walters between blue and amber really is stark, and I think that change is taking place in some way. He is getting wackier, he seems closer to Peter, he called Astrid 'Astro' ... I really just want the blue-verse back, don't I?

I mean, I am a Peter/Olivia 'shipper but their reunion scene did little for me. *sigh*

Yes. Not sure at all. I need to think some more.

ETA:

I did see this comment on Tumblr, which made me feel a little better about it, or at least think a little differently.

Olivia says that original-timeline Olivia is the “better version.” This isn’t a new belief. Olivia, after returning from the Other Side, was so worried about Alt-Livia being the “better version” of herself. She believed this because Alt-Livia was able to laugh and smile and fall in love. Well, the Olivia we saw with Peter at the end of season 3 laughs and smiles and fell in love. And now Olivia sees that she, herself, is the “better version.”

Tomorrow: housework and applying for jobs like a m-fucking adult. Joy.

Also, note to the Carolina Hurricanes: Columbus?! You beat Florida but lose by 4 to Columbus?!

Anyone want to take bets on how long it's going to take me to end up with an Eric Staal icon? ;)

I did a March Madness bracket again this year and it was going okay (I was ranked 3rd in a bracket group organised by Pajiba - a pop culture blog I read) but alas not so much today. However the two finalists I picked are still there, so fingers crossed. I did pick UConn correctly last year.
