tutorial: tricks and tips for making light textures IV

I'm spammy, I know :) but tomorrow I'll be back at work (even though I'm still sounding like the Lady of the Camelias *coughcoughcough*) and you'll be safe from me again *g*

Streaks of Color

a random light texture tutorial... the advantage of this technique is that you can emphasize highlights in your pics with little bursts of color...
very, very easy, so for most of you this won't be new :)

Step 01: take a random cap

- ok, the reasosn I've chosen this one? *g*
- watched Dirty Girls with friends last week
- giggled like crazy because of this scene
- YAY, Posterboy! heeee.
- aww, come on, it's Spike, and he's smoking, I don't need any other reasons ;P

Step 02: Levels

- I use levels (ctrl+L) until there's only black with a hint of color left
- that means you have to drag the right slider (for the whites) more to the left
- and the middle slider more to right to make the black parts bigger without losing too much shadows

there shouldn't be much left of the original pic. of course it depends on the cap you've used and your personal taste

Step 03: Blurring

- I use a Radial Blur because it gives some motion
- Spin with a good quality works nicely, but only if you don't go overboard with it
- and you should drag the center of the blur into one of the four corners

the result is actually already quite nice, but too dark

Step 04: Brightening

- as it's too dark I simply use an Auto-Contrast (ctrl+shift+alt+L)

- and as it's not smooth enough anymore, I use the Radial Blur again

Step 05: Finish

- you can either crop it now to use it as a light texture that gives you random color streaks

- or you can use it on the original cap you've used to emphasize random parts

made with this technique:
you can get nice effects when you repeat the steps twice from the beginning but put the center of the radial blur in another corner
in the end you combine the two results by adding one over the other on Screen mode :)
