Creep-tastic behavior

Aug 11, 2012 20:04

I probably shouldn't be posting since I'm really emotional right now, but I have a problem and it's escalating and I need some advice.

So there's this creepy asshole who has been following me around on the internet for just over a year now, badgering me to finish a WIP. They've posted on my LJ, my A03, the Inception Kink meme and ff.net on a regular ( Read more... )

Aside from the suggested reporting of this person to the archive managers, I'd say one option is to write them back and say due to their behavior, you've decided to never finish it. EVER. That they've utterly ruined the experience of writing this story, and due to their harassment you now associate working on it with very distasteful feelings. Tell them they need not bother writing again, as any messages they send will be deleted without you reading the content.

Maybe use this opportunity to fully vent the very feelings you mentioned in this post. The last lines do make a good sign-off. Congratulate them for causing such an outcome, if you're feeling passive-aggressive.

From here on out, do indeed delete anything they send. It will likely either be vitriol or faux apologetic trying to convince you to change your mind, and you don't need to be bothered by either. Don't reply to the harasser, even if they manage to anon-post something to trick you into reading it. (And do your best to try to view anything you do accidentally read in such a way that you can get a laugh out of it.)

It's up to you whether you actually want to finish the story or not; I'd hope that you would continue, since I like your writing and it's a...disgruntling feeling to have anyone chase you out of your favorite playground. I'd say finish it in private, and then post the entire thing in one go when you feel comfortable doing so. The aim in telling them that you've quit writing (this story) due to their behavior is the maybe-in-vain hope to teach them that this behavior is unacceptable and will not only fail to gain the ends they hoped for, but have the opposite effect.

But if you really do have such bad associations that you don't want to work on the story any more.... if it's not fun for you, don't force it. : \

Thanks so much for your comment. I wanted to take a day and think over what everyone said. I've taken your comment to heart and have updated the fic that it is complete. I am 95% sure it will stay that way -- I seriously feel sick every time I think about updating it due to this jerk.

Anyway, thank you again. *hugs*
