Tung Chuin, the architect
An exhibition of architectural drawings, paintings and photos by Tung Chuin - in Shanghai, until May 21, 2023. Two years later, there was a show of his photography. Tung Chuin (Tong Jun) was the designer of Metropol Thatre, National Commercial Bank and Mercantile Bank, in central Shanghai.
According to Wang Shu, China’s best contemporary architect, Tong Jun believed that “taste counts much more than mere know-how”, on which he based his own architectural theory. Wang says, inspired by Tong Jun, he was able to break the boundary between architecture and gardens in his designs. [source]
