To mark the 1st of September - always the first day of school in Russia - and at the same time to acknowledge my being in the US at the moment, here is a photograph of the 1940 graduation day at Shanghai's American School on Avenue Petain, with Washington Apartments in the background.

Looks like a wedding procession... Nice. Open. uncluttered space. Too bad this building is off limits now... Historic Shanghai held a walk last Sept. 1 with Betty Barr and her book class of 49 in front of the school. (photo on insta.).
