At another hotel in California now. I suppose it sucks slightly less than the last once, since a colleague I get along with well is in the same hotel. We went to Olive Garden last night, which was okay, and a Mexican restaurant today which was rather good. My passport has arrived, which is pretty cool. The picture is the same one used for my LJ icon, but I cropped it a bit more and replaced the background with an off white (as required by the State Department).

Anthony (my coworker) wants to find another hotel; not that I blame him. I'll probably join him if he finds a better place. The hotel's wireless was really great when I checked in, but it hasn't been working since yesterday morning. They think it's due to the construction going on and don't know when it will be fixed. The construction part is a little bit annoying, but other than the pool being closed and not being able to use the elevator, it hasn't really affected me in any notable way. However, if I'm going to be here for another eleven days or so, I'd rather be at a place with a usable pool, and preferably a weight room. There's also the fact that we picked this place because we were originally scheduled to work two sites over the next two weeks, and this place is between them. Now it's all going to be at one site, so might as well move closer to it.

I got a haircut at a barbershop outside Camp Pendleton this evening. I've got to say, Oceanside seems like a much nicer place than Jacksonville, and even though I have certain issues with California in general, I think I wouldn't mind doing a few years at Pendleton. I'd never retire here though.

Oh, if I hadn't mentioned it, I'm strongly considering enlisting with a reserve unit in Illinois after Mandy is discharged and we are in school. It'd likely be Echo Co, 2/24 Marines out of Des Moines. Their unit motto is "Mayhem from the Heartland". I am amused by this.
