Responses were very strong with the check-in post a while back, it was great to hear how well things are going. And with one month to go it seems like a good time to start gathering together our army of beta readers. So consider this your draft letter. ...Well, not really a draft since being a beta is completely optional in every way. Regardless, for everyone who is interested please post a comment with the following info:
Your lj name (kind of a given)
Preferred method of contact (if other than lj messaging.)
Your specialties as a beta (grammar, canonical knowledge, storytelling, etc)
Your preferences as a beta, (what you are or are not willing to review.)
On the other side of the equation, when you contact someone asking them to be a beta for your fic, please be clear what you feel you need or would like the most help with. Betas are encouraged to give as much help as possible of course, but knowing specifically what you want them to focus on helps them help you.
A final note, this is by no means a due date beyond the regular timeline. Of course to get the most out of the beta process it is advisable to have your rough draft completed. If you already have the draft finished and you find a beta, feel free to keep up the good work. The rest of us mere mortal writers will continue slaving away under our regularly scheduled deadlines.
UPDATE: Also feel free to post a request for a beta, requests should follow a format similar to this;
Your lj name (again, kind of a given)
Preferred method of contact (if other than lj)
What kind of help you're looking for (grammar help, formatting, characterization, etc)
What your story contains (details not essential, see above for examples, just enough so betas know what your story contains in case it's something they aren't comfortable with.)
check-in,
timeline,
beta sign-up,
mod post
