Drabble: Even more Precious than Sleep

Jasper stood in the doorway of Luka’s nursery watching Seth watch Luka. He could see the dark circles under Seth’s eyes. Jasper knew his little wolf hadn’t slept properly since they brought Luka home. Seth was always the first one up when Luka made the smallest noise, and sometimes when he didn’t, even though Jasper didn’t need to sleep.
Pushing away from the doorframe, Jasper walked up behind Seth and wrapped his arms around Seth’s waist, resting his chin on Seth’s shoulder. “Why’re you still ‘wake darl’n? Luka’s sleeping, he’s happy and he’s safe,” Jasper mumbled into his ear.
Seth sighed and leaned back against Jasper. “I dunno, I want to sleep but every time I do I have these dreams that he’s gone…” Seth opened his eyes and gave Jasper a sidelong look. “It took us so long to have him Jazz-“ His voice cracked then. “I don’t want to lose him. I can’t lose him.”
Jasper’s hold on Seth tightened and he pressed a kiss to Seth’s neck. “We’re not going to lose him darl’n. I know you’re worried about SIDS and possibly other things but Luka’s seven months old now. Luka’s risk of SIDS diminishes greatly with every day-month-that passes. And I’m here baby, I can make sure nothing happens while you sleep and you need to sleep.” Jasper took a step backward, which with his arms still around Seth made Seth do the same. He didn’t meet any resistance until the third step. “C’mon darl’n, you’re still not recovered completely. Sleep,” Jasper practically purred, he used his ability to enhance Seth’s sleepiness.
A soft whine left Seth’s throat. “But-“
“I’ve got him baby,” Jasper whispered. “I promise, Luka will be okay when you wake up. Now sleep.” Seth finally stopped resisting and let Jasper lead him across the hall to their bedroom. Once Jasper had Seth in bed and he had completely given in to sleep, Jasper returned to Luka’s room. He kept his steps nearly silent as to not wake his son but when he stepped up to the crib large, golden eyes stared back at him. Jasper grinned, leaning a hand in to run a finger down Luka’s cheek. “Hey little man, how long have you been awake?”
