I am writing  this blog about my short documentary project set in Tijuna's zona norte district.

Will be doing writer's audio commentary for DVD extras of The Watermelon, out this summer in a package deal from Celebrity Video Distribution.

Will be shooting sort doc in Tijuana early April.

May be writing a book on micro blogging for Polity, a great academic publisher in the UK.

Today, for the first time ever, I was sent to secondary at the border when returning from Tijuana. This was in the foot traffic section.  I have been given the green light/micro grant to shoot a short documentary film for Real Idea Studios for a program of international short docs that will be screened at Cannes Film Festival this May.

The doc will be about lives in Tijuana's zona norte -- the street vendors, the street walkers, the children playing in the gutter...

This week, I had an essay accepted into ZYZZAVA, a prominient West Coast literary journal that I have been sending stuff to for 10 years, and an essay, of all places, in The Journal of Sports Science (long story on that one).

My editor at the Univ. of South Carolina Press sent the Vollmann book back for another rewrite.  He says I am almost there ( Read more... )
