Weirdness

Sunday night while at work I came upon something rather odd. Not odd with work or anything of that sort, but odd in that way that brings out maternal panic mode. There is this community bulletin board in the hallway leading to the public bathrooms, where people post all sorts of things. Typically they are ads for things to sell; cars, services, household stuff and the like. Usually the only ones that catch my eye as I go by are the missing persons posters and there is one right now for people wanting to adopt. What was so strange about one that night was it was all done in colored pencil.

These two young girls put up an ad for a 'pet day care'. Now while that is cute in and of itself the problem I had with it was the rest of the information they left on the poster. From the numbers they left on the ad, I can only deduce that they are (or one at least is) a cell phone #. One of the girls, they used different colors for themselves, stated that she might not be able to pick up the phone because 'I mite be at daycare, becuse my parents are divorst'. I doubted very much that either of their parents had any clue that their daughters were doing this, otherwise they probably would have said no. So I pulled the poster down and put it in the store directors box stating why I pulled it. I could just have seen some sick freak calling up the numbers and well... you can all guess at the rest.

Now for the really odd part of it all, when I showed some of the others I work with; they thought it was cute and that I should leave it up. Sorry, but that just does not leave a good feeling in my stomach at all. Not for innocent children who saw Hotel for Dogs and thought that something like that could happen to them. Especially since everything about the ad they did screamed little kid.

On a side note; this is a few years after we were having trouble with one of those sickos calling a bunch of stores saying that he was from a radio station and would like to talk to a kid in the toy section. Needless to say I got one of those calls and tried to transfer it over to loss prevention (who was not there at the time). Almost wish I would have just told him that there was no way he was going to talk to a kid, but not in such nice terms. Could have apologized to the customers around me at the time and told them what was up. Sure I would have been forgiven.
