I'm stuck at home today. Snowed in. Which is fine and dandy!
Kids and dogs are romping outside my front window, enjoying their snow day too!
We had a ball this weekend in Portland! On Friday we met Roz & Roy for a wonderful dinner at Pinocchio's. Lots of laughs. When we returned to the hotel we ran into Susie and her clan, just finishing up dinner. We joined them and I was enthralled by sweet 2-year old Braden, oh so tired but hanging in there good naturedly.
Saturday morning Sig and Megs met us for breakfast, a brisk walk on the Esplanade, and a tour of Saturday Market. Again, laughs galore.
While Bob headed off to the Pape Jam, I walked around Portland, primarily in the Pearl, shopping (but not buying much.) Everything is so festive, people friendly and helpful.
After the games, Bob and I walked up to Higgins where we met Mike & Karen for a fabulous dinner. We haven't been to Higgins in years, at least I haven't - Bob was there fairly recently with Claire. Higgins was one of the first restaurants in Oregon to feature local, seasonal food. The meal was terrific! The best I've had out in ages, and that's saying something as we are kinda foodies.
The plan was to meet Claire & Sherry for breakfast at ten Sunday. Bob & I were up early, lounging around (euphemism). When we flipped on local news at 8am, the "Arctic Blast" was all the news. The roads looked bad, and likely to get worse. We canceled breakfast, grabbed coffee and scones at Stumptown, and got on the road.
One of Bob's Pape colleagues, Dan, was getting his car right before us. Since we grabbed breakfast to go they were about 15 minutes ahead of us. As we headed into the Terwilliger curves, Dan called with a warning that he'd been sitting in traffic at a dead stop, and it didn't look like they would be moving soon. We jumped off at Terwilliger, took Barbur to 99W. At 99W there was NO TRAFFIC south on I5. NONE. Nothing was getting through, including dear Dan. But thanks to him we hopped over it saving us at least an hour! Thank you, Dan!
South of Salem, there wasn't even any snow. We stopped in Eugene to stock up on groceries and got a Christmas tree. It is now decorated in red white and blue, and looks great!
Today will be dedicated to cleaning, laundry, finances, puttering. Maybe I'll even shovel the driveway which I know from past experience is a lot o' frickin' work!
The tree is calling me. It says it needs more ornaments.
Happy snow day one and all!
