Woke up this morning thinking about a beautiful morning it was never expecting to feel an earthquake some odd hours later in my Brooklyn office!
Quite a surreal experience. My staff started to panic and I wasn't processing what was happening, because how on earth could it be an earthquake? We saw people leaving the building and decided to evacuate. Thankfully everything was fine and everyone was safe. Seeing your cubicle sway back and forth is quite the experience. I really didn't get it at first, and my first thought was something happened with the construction next door...but once we got outside (and really going across the street during an earthquake is kinda stupid, but whatever) someone was able to confirm it was an earthquake. We were all in awe. It was a little nerve wracking when the phones were down, but thankfully they weren't down too long.
Some people were really shaken by the whole thing, and I admit that when I entered the building again my mind was still processing the event, but I didn't think it was that traumatic. Then I was speaking to someone and they said they were afraid after what happened in Haiti. So I guess I shouldn't be too cynical, but still some people are just so friggin dramatic.
My parents didn't even know what happened. I called my Mom... "what earthquake?" Go figure.
So now I can officially say that I've experienced an earthquake and a tornado while at work. Last September we had a tornado in Brooklyn - so what's next??
