Yesterday morning's mail brought the eagerly awaited package from the Australian embassy. I now have my passport back, and inside of it is my visa!!!
We can now begin the final preparations for moving. On Monday, I'll be giving my two-weeks notice at work which means my last day there will be Nov 6th. We've started getting boxes and customs forms for the things we are going to ship to Tassie. After a quick check on Joe's availability for hosting us, we'll announce the date of our going-away party.
All the financial complexities look to be in very good shape so we went yesterday afternoon and bought a laptop. We decided that this would be a wise choice since computers look like they are much more expensive in Australia (even after factoring in the currency exchange) and we'll definately need a new one in Tassie. It will also allow us to move all of our files and data from the old machine much easier (if we can get the home networking thing figured out, at least). We spent the entire evening getting the laptop set up, configured, and moving the most important data over via CD. I've not worked on a laptop much but I think this is going to be fun.
It seems like there's a thousand things that need to be done before I leave for Australia, but I'm so eager to get through it that it's not really seeming daunting at all. I'm just taking it one step at a time, knowing that I'll get it all done and that my life is being carried forward on the currents of my destiny...
