tori was saturday in the district. it was the best plugged show she's played here, and besides repeatedly kicking myself for not smuggling in my point and shoot, it was an amazing evening. what heather and i thought were seventh row seats turned out to be third row, so it's the closest we've ever been at a formal concert (vs. a radio show).
the songs:
give
body & soul
cornflake girl
flavor
space dog
hotel
jamaica inn
icicle
mary jane
gold dust
pretty good year
a sorta fairytale
fast horse
precious things
strong black vine
bouncing off clouds
raspberry swirl
big wheel
the highlight, by far, was gold dust followed by pretty good year. gold dust is a song i've been fortunate to hear before, but it's still an absolute gift when she chooses to give it, and without a doubt one of my favorite songs of hers, ever. pretty good year is a song that i'd stopped even dreaming of someday hearing - it's so rare and special. but they came one after another, and she brought me to tears. as much as us locals complain about the usual lackluster shows she gives to her hometown, i wouldn't trade this for anything. what she gave us on saturday was absolutely worth the wait.
