“Cloud, why don’t the other children want to play with me?” Sephiroth asked from his spot beside his blonde guardian. Cloud was preparing a mako injection for the boy, to keep him from going through withdrawals. The silver haired boy watched curiously as the blonde looked over paperwork, that he had obtained before destroying the Shin-Ra corporation, and fill a medium gauge needle with the thick green liquid.
“Children are cruel, Sephiroth. They might just be afraid because of the mako in your blood,” he told the boy honestly. Blonde bangs shadowed his eyes as he remembered his own painful childhood, maybe bringing the boy to Rocket Town wasn’t the best idea… it was a little too close to the close mindedness of Nibelheim.
Cid had invited him to stay when he helped the pilot get parts for the Highwind, then warn him of Shin-Ra’s intent to cancel the pending space program. The town wasn’t even called Rocket Town, as it was missing the giant rocket, but Cloud never bothered to ask the name of the town he was currently residing in. Shera adored Sephiroth and watched the boy when Cloud was out doing odd jobs.
“Then why do you keep giving me these shots?” the boy asked from his spot beside the man. Cloud’s glowing gaze shifted over to Sephiroth. The catlike green eyes were vibrant, but not so much SOLDIER-esque.
“I do it to keep you from getting sick. You know, I would be very sad if anything ever happened to you,” Cloud said without thinking. He had rescued the boy when he was very young, so young that he barely remembered Hojo. As hard as he tried, he could not avoid getting attached.
Sephiroth blushed, adverted his gaze, and swung his feet back and forth; clearly pleased with the answer if the smile on his little face said anything. Though, to Cloud, it spoke volumes.
