I shouldn't read Facebook in the morning. I am a fool. Brought to you by another slew of morons.
Do you hate cops?
I don't hate anyone on basis of existence. I wish I could say that was true of everyone. Unfortunately, it is not, and therein lies the problem.
So you think all cops are bad.Every single police officer? No. I think there are good

I had a Facebook idiot trying to school me last night on how rents were frozen in Ontario so people were all lying about costs going up. I didn't know this person, he was a friend of a friend. She checked in with me to let me know that he was:
A. A home owner and has no current experience in the rental market.
B. His parents help him out a lot financially.
C. He's been on disability for the last 10 years and yet seems to think that others shouldn't have the same privledge he has.
So he's a winner.
He was also wrong about rent as landlords are abusing the above guideline increase rules to get around the freeze and when I'd essentially won the argument by showing a lot of proof he pivoted and said he'd never been trying to argue that rents couldn't go up during a freeze in the first place and that of course landlords had the right to raise rents.
I hate arguing with people like this. Even in person, because they move the goalposts every time they're losing. I do have the arguments sometimes when I know they're very wrong and I want to ensure others who read/listen don't believe someone who has entirely incorrect information.
This guy was pulling out all of the stops about how I should get a lawyer if I didn't understand the rules - yes, my tenant association has one of those. Oh then we have a bad lawyer who doesn't know the law. Hmmm other tenant associations are having the exact same results. Oh the landlords are just doing this and hoping you don't challenge. No - these are the results after they're challenges at the Landlord and Tenant Board. Oh - well then you should just go to court and sue if the board is doing it wrong. Like dude - I work with lawyers. I do understand how this works and going to court isn't the magical solution you think it is. Nor is it free or speedy. He clearly had read a few right wing talking points and figured that was research.

Right?? That's absolutely the worst. Stop doing that. I once had a guy come up with different reasons as to why I'm Islamophobic because I asked him to clarify a meme he shared. In that case it became obvious he just had no idea what he was talking about, and I "cornered" him. I suspect this guy was similar, just ratting crap off.
Of course, this former friend of mine was (obviously) on the opposite political spectrum. And for the record, nothing I asked was Islamophobic. I don't think all Muslims are extremists. (There are extremists in every religion, political stance, world view, it goes on. If you know me, you should know I know that.) He shared some information I was unfamiliar with, and I asked what it meant because it was something I... hadn't known and wanted to better understand. That's all it was. *Rolls eyes*

Yup. And of course, it isn't research at all. You can't just parrot other people's talking points.

Honestly, he probably thinks he has a "reason" unlike everybody else. That's often how it goes. How does he know anything about someone else's life? What if there's someone out there judging him? Unbelievable.

In the case of yours you asked a valid question and the guy obviously didn't know anything about what he'd said and rather than say "you know, I actually don't know that but I should look into it" he decided that asking a question makes you hateful. Exactly right about parroting taking points. I think we've all done it. I sure have. But I'm trying to get better at really digging into an issue before I speak/post about it and also try not to be afraid of not knowing something. I can't be an expert on everything.
Exactly so. This guy was on and on about rent and he owns a home (guessing he got it prior to disability because our disability payments are terrible) and yet he can't see that someone else on disability who rents it being made homeless by rent going up even during a rent freeze. He just couldn't see beyond his own experiences to realize that not everyone else was a home owner or had the advantages he did.
Obviously he's got struggles, anyone who is qualifying for disability is experiencing some hardships. That doesn't negate the fact that he's obviously had advantages as well.
