Seven Facts About Ron Weasley

Aug 05, 2017 11:03

I'm on a roll with these! Well, I didn't post one yesterday, but I'm picking up the pace!

As with Ginny, this takes place over the course of a few years.

1. While Harry and Ginny take their time, Ron and Hermione jump right into their relationship. It isn't without a few rough patches - but they work through them together.

2. Normally Aurors are required to have extensive training. However, both Kingsley and Williams - the new Head of Magical Law Enforcement - agree Ron has had more than sufficient training, along with Harry and Neville. Hermione is also pressed to join, but she decides to  redo her final year at Hogwarts instead. Especially as she's realized her calling might be in magical creatures after all.

"I should never have dropped Care of Magical Creatures our sixth year," she tells Ron. "Not just because it hurt Hagrid, but... maybe I can really help House Elves now. And work with dragons. And Goblins."

Ron hopes Hermione learns a little tact, but otherwise supports her in this. Meanwhile, he helps Harry in the Auror Department, because it's what they've always done, although he also works at George's shop part-time.

3. When Ron realizes his brother's hanging by a thread, he quits the Auror office altogether. It's time anyway, he thinks; he needs to be his own man, rather than always Harry's lackey. Not that he is Harry's lackey, he knows he isn't, but sometimes he still feels that way.

The shop, however, is his. Or the business end of it, anyway. Sales and plans are a game of chess to Ron, and he's good at managing money - growing up poor will do that. Everything he thought would bore him to tears instead makes him feel like he has an actual purpose.

Besides, magical jokes make him think of Fred. And George, of course, but he still has George - a changed George, a more jaded George, but George. It's Fred he's lost, it's Fred's grin he misses, and the shop gives him a bit of that back.

Not that he tells anyone that. Except Hermione.

4. Ron can't quite forgive Percy. You don't leave people - or, if you do,  because Ron did and knows he did, you go right back to them as soon as you can. Sure, he understands that Percy was stuck after the Ministry coup - truthfully, he probably would've put them all in danger. But he had a whole year. He didn't use it well. Ron is cordial to Percy when his family's around, his parents are elated to have Percy back and Ron won't risk changing that, but he's always busy when Percy attempts arrangements to meet.

Gradually, it changes. Ron realizes he misses Percy, and meets him to make peace once and for all. He's surprised to find that Percy really has changed. He's still a little pompous, but he's also concerned about George, supportive of Ron's decision to help run the shop ("although I always thought George should invest in something  more useful - I suppose that's not happening"), and Ron realizes he can do more than just pretend to like Percy. They're not close - they never were, and Ron doesn't think they ever will be. But they are brothers, and it's time to act like it.

5. Ron and Hermione elope. They originally plan on a proper wedding, but aren't sure if they should have a Muggle-friendly wedding and tell their Wizarding guests to hold in all magic, or if they should just go for magic and claim George is an expert in special effects. Hermione then suggests not inviting anyone other than her parents, but her family still hasn't entirely forgiven the Grangers for supposedly disappearing for a year. After realizing they're now up to two weddings, they decide to get married privately, and have different parties for both sides.

Of course, some people do still attend their small, last-minute wedding: both sets of parents, Harry, Ginny, and of course Hagrid, because how could they not?

6. Ron still sometimes has nightmares. Only Harry and Hermione know.

7. Ron has nieces and nephews now, and remembers when he held each of them for the first time. He loved them straight away.

But nothing compares to holding  his daughter Rose for the first time.

(I haven't forgotten Hugo! I'm picking Hermione's up where I left off with Ron.)
