American Psycho, dir. Mary Harron.

Man, I love this film. But then I love the book. Which doesn't usually follow, now that I think about it. >_<

Mary Harron does a great job with translating Bret Easton Ellis' novel to film. The film retains much of the novel's satire and dark wit. The casting is almost flawless (I've been very impressed with film this weekend), with Christian Bale being perfect in the role of Patrick Bateman. Willem Dafoe is excellent as the detective, and the support cast is excellent.

Visually, this is a stark film. The contrast of the white, pristine walls and sharp lines and angles of the sets with Bateman's growing psychotic nature works extremely well. I must admit that most of the time, I was having hysterics at the film. Does it make me psychotic that I was cracking up during the scene where he runs naked, covered in blood, weilding a chainsaw and laughing maniacally? It's such a GREAT image, and the total unreaction by other people living in the appartment building to 'Christy's' distress was scarily honest. Most people don't give a rats ass about such things.

This is a great film, one that I enjoyed a very great deal, although I know it's not for everyone. Most enjoyable.
