I was meandering through the New York Times website, and I came across their
Multimedia section. They have "Broadway Minute"s, which are one minute taped reviews by the head NY Times theater critic
Ben Brantley. This made me very happy because I'd constantly seen pictures of Mr. Brantley and read his reviews, but I'd never seen him speaking or moving. He is very entertaining if you have a few moments. Mostly he looks like a puckered, single, over-plucked, theatre queen with no excitement in his life except the imagined grandeur of his Work, but there are some absolute gems hidden throughout the reviews. In the review of
In My Life he actually says 'the willful eccentricities and tics rest on this show like (dramatic pause) lamp shades on tipsy party guests who are really squares at heart'.
Last line of his staff bio-
"Mr. Brantley is single and lives in New York City. "
