Sydney - messy dump but I like it!

Sydney really is a messy dump!!  Even the locals look 'dirty'.   Not really like me to criticize Sydney, I really do like it here, but the road-works along Oxford St are a catastrophe, the air in Central Station is thick with humidity and sweat, the train tracks are laced with waste and rubbish.  The air is not crisp and clean like Perth, and there ( Read more... )

Sydney sounds a lot like New Orleans. There is just something about the heat and humidity that makes a place seem more...icky. But, I guess that is what makes them the unique towns they are. And I can tell from the tone of your postings it's affected you.

I am hoping you find some time in this long, hard productive week of yours to have some fun! New place = new sights and sounds = new experiences

So, do you prefer smaller towns or bigger cities? Me, I like living near larger cities so I have access to all the cool stuff...theatre, dance, music, art...but so prefer to live in a smaller town. The last place I lived was Bellingham, Washington and I LOVED IT! I miss it so very much. It is only about 75k people but it never seemed like it. It was close to British Columbia and Seattle and all the "cool" stuff. Now I live in Portland with its 480k folks and including outlying areas = 1 million. It has all the cool stuff I like, and then some, but I find I will make more of an effort to do these things when I have to travel farther. *I am such an odd duck* I am thinking I just do not like having to work so hard to have my own "space" in the midst of a larger city. My fondness for Bellingham was also the fact I lived 2 blocks from the ocean and could find a spot, spiritually center myself, and relax...even if the parks were busy with people I could still do this. Me and Portland just have not gotten to this point, yet :(
