Rory couldn't believe she'd let this lapse for so long.

Granted, she'd been busy, given that she'd been dispensing advice about boys and desserts, discussing classes and helping Luke with his homework. But still, there was no excuse for how she'd been slacking

"I was putting together my application to go to the military academy a month ago," Luke thought out loud. "It seems like a different lifetime."

He shook his head. "Apparently Bel thinks that Vader's not as insane as the last ethics teacher."

Rory actually started laughing really, really hard at that. "He might have a point."

Luke blinked. "Seriously?"

"The old Ethics teacher brought up some, um, very inappropriate topics," Rory said, looking a little irritated at the memory. "There was an assignment where half of us were slaves to the other half of the class."

"Seriously?" Luke repeated. "That's still something that's done at home."

"And she also discussed whether rape is an ethical issue, while beaming at all of us," Rory added, turning red out of both shyness and anger. "So, yeah, she skipped town right after that and then tried to fail like half the class."

The muscles in Luke's jaw clenched. "At least Vader's up front with his evil, I guess. Were you in that class too?"

Rory nodded, looking a little proud. "And I walked out of that particular discussion. And then I petitioned to have our grades changed. And then your father wanted to go kick Tara around the school."

"He did?" Luke smiled. "Of course he did."

In his mind Anakin was seven feet tall and could do no wrong.

"And good for you."

Rory wasn't about to change that interpretation - especially since it was dangerously close to the way she was remembering Anakin.

"Yeah, so honestly, I'd take Vader over Tara. At least with him we know where he stands, and there were no pretenses of being kind or our friends."

"That teacher must've reallly done a number on you," Luke said softly, "to make Vader seem okay."

"He makes it easier to know the enemy," Rory replied with a tiny smile.

"He's not exactly subtle about, well, anything, is he?" Luke asked, walking over to refill his coffee cup.

"What do you need to provide for an application to school here?"

"GPA, writing samples, testing scores, and for these schools? About twelve years of straight A's," Rory rattled off.

Luke grinned. "Which I bet you have."

[auroryborealis]

"I've wanted to go to Harvard since I was four," Rory admitted, blushing a little. "So yeah."
