Finally rewatched the episode.
While I wouldn't say this was my favourite episode, I enjoyed it. I thought the flash sideways were pretty solid; I found myself invested in Jack and his relationship with David. It was hard for me not to feel really bad for Jack, actually, watching the poor guy try so hard, only to get rebuffed over and over. On the island side -- I can't believe I'm saying this -- more of Hurley is never a bad thing. I'll say it again, I really like his character now. In a way, this episode really reminded me of S2, where in the A storyline, a lot doesn't necessarily happen, but what does happen has major implications for the show. Okay, I suppose that was a pretty vague statement.
1. It was sort of hilarious that Jack's mother offered him a drink, and then when he says no she responds, 'Good for you.' So I take from that that Jack is a recovering alcoholic. Why, as his mother, would you offer him a drink? LOL.
2. I wasn't sure how we were supposed to take Hurley's theory on Adam and Eve. That was quite honestly where I thought the show was going for a long time. Seasons, really. Now I don't really think so, but maybe some characters will end up as Adam and Eve, and Jack will still wake up in the jungle with a gash on his back with no memory of how he got there...
3. I can't believe Hurley didn't know that was Jacob at the pool.
4. I wouldn't say that I really like Jacob, but I love how Mark Pellegrino plays him. He makes me laugh pretty hard.
5. It's apparently pretty hilarious to Kate that she almost shot her former fiance. And I mean, that's pretty hilarious to me too, but I think it's for different reasons.
6. I'd feel bad for Sayid if I wasn't sort of bored to tears by him. Jack can't decide whether or not to give him the mysterious pill, then Jack disappears. Jack tells him the mysterious pill is poison, then Jack disappears.
7. More Miles, please?
8. Thank God Jin finally got to act in this show. I'm still torn on whether or not I enjoyed the Claire storyline. On one hand, I guess it's good that Claire is doing something. I've never liked Claire, but still. Her squirrel baby was, of course, fucking creepy, but I've seen it a hundred times in previews at this point so the shock was rather spoilt for me. I also got really tired of her demanding to know where her baby was. My memory is not that short, Lost. The show is only 42 minutes long, and I'm capable of recalling that Claire really really really wants to know where her baby is. So far I also don't think Emilie de Ravin really pulls crazy off that well. I dunno. She was actually great when she was talking about 'her friend', but other than that she just sort of acted like she was angry. Though not as angry as she usually was at Charlie.
9. The one thing that was weird about Jack's flash sideways is that he didn't cross paths with any other characters. The other two episodes were full of that.
I'll make an attempt to get my review of 6.06 up earlier. It was a busy week for me last week, that's why I haven't managed this until now.
