Twenty Things That Are My Personal SG-1 Canon

May 17, 2007 00:08

Yay, I'm so close to done on my sd_ficathon story! Just have one more transition scene to write, then it needs to be revised and betaed (and probably heavily revised again). And for all my attempts to write a "short" story, it's clocking in around 7,000 words at the moment. Sigh. It's supposed to be a nice easy tale ( Read more... )

I love this meme :D It's great to read them all and see the similarities between everyone's take on certain aspects of canon.

Loved all of these. Teal'c with the dye is an especial favourite.

Also you must write fic to accompany #13 - that one intrigues me.

They are all really awesome, aren't they? I missed a few earlier on that I have to go back and reread. Slash canon, gen canon, ship canon. It's all so fascinating.

Teal'c with the dye is an especial favourite.

Teal'c and those Hawaiian shirts. There had to be an explanation. LOL

#13's fic I swear will happen: after the ficathon, and the "Talion" tag. Yeah, after those two it should be next. "Interference" wiped me out so bad, I was a bit sick of ascendeds for a while. Hee.

This meme has really produced some gems, hasn't it? And I love yours! These were some of my favorites:

Your #7 explains 1969, doesn't it? :) And your #10 gives me chills, because I HATED that TPTB took away Kheb from the Jaffa. That was something real for them, not something the Goa'uld invented. I wish Teal'c hadn't lost that.

Your #12 is ouch and YES, it's my canon too. And while your #13 isn't exactly the same as mine, I had to laugh at the reasoning behind the Others in saving the SGC before sending Daniel back: "We don't want him here again! Make sure he doesn't get the chance to die immediately!"

#17 is love. Teal'c and Cassie's close friendship is one of my favorite personal bits of fanon.

#19 is hilarious and nicely handwaves the continuity back together... although sometimes, I'm happier thinking S9-10 is a different reality. But that's just me. ;)

#7 explains 1969, and "Point of No Return" and so many of Teal'c's fashion choices through the years (he's been a bit more disappointingly sedate in the later seasons. I think Sam did a raid on his wardrobe--or maybe it's a subtle mourning of Janet).

10. Yeah, it's a shame there's nothing left for the Jaffa--a people whose whole life is based on belief and service. It's no wonder they're flailing around post-Goa'uld. Poor Teal'c.

"We don't want him here again! Make sure he doesn't get the chance to die immediately!"

Hee hee. Yep.

17. I know. I love Teal'c and Cassie. I realized as I was about to make a reference in the second story in a row to Teal'c and Cassie reading together that this was SO my canon!

#19 is hilarious and nicely handwaves the continuity back together... although sometimes, I'm happier thinking S9-10 is a different reality. But that's just me. ;)I know you like that S9-10 fanwank, but I can't bear to have our team dead in Ancient Egypt. It makes me too sad. Sigh, those @$##$@ fish and PTB and their ( ... )

I didn't realize there's a Simpsons joke in the fish in the pond. I've never watched the Simpsons. Could you elaborate?

But the team died in Ancient Egypt even in our timeline. I think. Argh. Time travel makes your brain freeze, doesn't it?

This way, I stay happy and relatively sane.

"Sane"? Hm. That words sounds vaguely familiar - I'm sure I've heard it before. Can't imagine in what context, though... :)

You know how dangerous it is asking me to elaborate! LOL

They make a passing reference to it being a Simpsons homage on the commentary, but if you don't watch the show you wouldn't get the reference.

I watched this LONG ago so the details are fuzzy. There was an episode of the Simpsons (possibly one of their Halloween specials but I'm not certain of that). Homer ends up having a time travel device that he keeps changing things and then freaks out trying to get everything back to normal. He finally thinks he does, but then it turns out his baby has a forked tongue (like a snake) rather than a normal cartoon human tongue. By this point he's so exhausted and everything else is the same he just shrugs and says "eh, close enough."

TPTB of "Stargate" were joking and homaging the Simpsons with their version at the end of "Moebius".

suzannemarie and others smarter in theory than me explained that our team never died because they never went back because it's a Moebius loop. The original timeline team was ALSO an alternate because it's all the ( ... )

Heh. You did bet-ter with the Simpsons explanation than I did. But I typed it all out--such as it as--so I'm leaving it there.

Love the list. You know #14's going to be one of my favorites. It's a nice explanation for her pictures still being up at his house. And his terse "can we not talk about that either" in Lost City.

#20 seems very much in character for everyone.

#8: I think AT herself seemed curious in at least one of the commentaries about why she would have such a nice house since it's not like she ever spends any time there.

Your explanation is super cool (and as usual much more concise)!

Hee. I was totally thinking of "Lost City" when writing that. But I've always wondered about Jack & Sara since "Cold Lazarus", because aw.

#8. You're right. AT self-wanked that she took over her father's house when he left for the Tok'ra. But Jacob only moved to Colorado Springs to be close to Sam when he was dying and rented an apartment (because again...DYING!), so unfortunately that wank doesn't work. Therefore I created my own.

I also remember Martin Wood pointing out how many computers she has in the place. *That* is totally Sam.

Glad #20 seemed in character.

Hee. I was totally thinking of "Lost City" when writing that. But I've always wondered about Jack & Sara since "Cold Lazarus", because aw.

If I were a show writer or did fanfic, I'd totally think that there's a story to be written about how there are two times every year when Jack becomes especially sad and withdrawn: on Charlie's birthday and on the anniversary of his death. Sometimes on those days Jack and Sara reach out to each other because they're the only ones who can really understand what the other is going through.

But I don't write fanfic. So if that idea appeals to anyone who's reading this, and it hasn't already been done, feel free to run with it.

Much to my surprise, I've got a story starting to write itself in my head. Whether it will come to full fruition--and whether anybody else will ever see it--remains to be seen.

Still, if that fic idea strikes anyone's fancy, go for it.

I absolutely adore your list, and I ::nodnod:: at every item on it. I'm especially enamored of #1 (which I think is different from #20!) and #11. It makes me happy to think about the science staff having their own camaraderie, and their own traditions and in-jokes and everything else that goes with it. That's wonderful. And #11! omg of course! So true!

Love your version of The Theory Behind Sam's House, too. And while I'm sort of rebelliously resistant to scenarios where a girl acquires a passion for 'boy' things from a boyfriend as opposed to developing her own passions on her own, I really like that background for Sam and motorcycles, and the doubly disapproving Jacob makes me grin.

Great list!

Oh, and I love the Teal'c ones, and #19 is a really cool way to untwist the supposed twist!

Yep. Because it's all right and *our* team didn't die in Ancient Egypt, damnit! (You may see them as AU, that's fine...but I don't like them killed back then and Daniel all alone).

Heh. Teal'c's were the most fun to play with.

Oh, I despise the thought of them killed back then, and Daniel alone, and the idea that the last sight we ever had of our team together was as they trudged off across the sands. Hurts way too much. It's awesome that you finagled that fix!
