Twenty Things That Are My Personal SG-1 Canon

May 17, 2007 00:08

Yay, I'm so close to done on my sd_ficathon story! Just have one more transition scene to write, then it needs to be revised and betaed (and probably heavily revised again). And for all my attempts to write a "short" story, it's clocking in around 7,000 words at the moment. Sigh. It's supposed to be a nice easy tale ( Read more... )

#7 explains 1969, and "Point of No Return" and so many of Teal'c's fashion choices through the years (he's been a bit more disappointingly sedate in the later seasons. I think Sam did a raid on his wardrobe--or maybe it's a subtle mourning of Janet).

10. Yeah, it's a shame there's nothing left for the Jaffa--a people whose whole life is based on belief and service. It's no wonder they're flailing around post-Goa'uld. Poor Teal'c.

"We don't want him here again! Make sure he doesn't get the chance to die immediately!"

Hee hee. Yep.

17. I know. I love Teal'c and Cassie. I realized as I was about to make a reference in the second story in a row to Teal'c and Cassie reading together that this was SO my canon!

#19 is hilarious and nicely handwaves the continuity back together... although sometimes, I'm happier thinking S9-10 is a different reality. But that's just me. ;)

I know you like that S9-10 fanwank, but I can't bear to have our team dead in Ancient Egypt. It makes me too sad. Sigh, those @$##$@ fish and PTB and their stupid Simpsons homage joke--it hurts my brain. This way, I stay happy and relatively sane.

Glad you enjoyed them!

I didn't realize there's a Simpsons joke in the fish in the pond. I've never watched the Simpsons. Could you elaborate?

But the team died in Ancient Egypt even in our timeline. I think. Argh. Time travel makes your brain freeze, doesn't it?

This way, I stay happy and relatively sane.

"Sane"? Hm. That words sounds vaguely familiar - I'm sure I've heard it before. Can't imagine in what context, though... :)

You know how dangerous it is asking me to elaborate! LOL

They make a passing reference to it being a Simpsons homage on the commentary, but if you don't watch the show you wouldn't get the reference.

I watched this LONG ago so the details are fuzzy. There was an episode of the Simpsons (possibly one of their Halloween specials but I'm not certain of that). Homer ends up having a time travel device that he keeps changing things and then freaks out trying to get everything back to normal. He finally thinks he does, but then it turns out his baby has a forked tongue (like a snake) rather than a normal cartoon human tongue. By this point he's so exhausted and everything else is the same he just shrugs and says "eh, close enough."

TPTB of "Stargate" were joking and homaging the Simpsons with their version at the end of "Moebius".

suzannemarie and others smarter in theory than me explained that our team never died because they never went back because it's a Moebius loop. The original timeline team was ALSO an alternate because it's all the same team or...something. Why are you asking me such things early in the morning?

I know Joe Mallozzi has even said it's our team (but I don't think he can explain it either--he just points to Brad Wright at that stage). All I know is I've read some people explaining how it's our team and I say, "yay. Okay, I'm going with that." LOL.

"Sane"? Hm. That words sounds vaguely familiar - I'm sure I've heard it before. Can't imagine in what context, though... :)

Hee!

Now, see, the "close enough" seemed very Jack-like to me, even without the Simpsons thing. So I didn't mind. And I guess suzannemarie is right about the Moebius name actually meaning something with the closed loop. So Daniel et al did die in Ancient Egypt, only they didn't. There! All cleared up! :)

I know, it is very Jack-like, so I didn't pick up on the "Simpsons" reference either until I listened to the commentary (and it's a classic Simpsons ep).

Then again, Jack channels Homer a lot.

There! All cleared up! :)

Yep! Clear as mud! :-D

I listened to the commentary

Whew! Brave woman. I couldn't bear listening to the late season commentaries. The things you do for Stargate Solutions... :)

There's a Simpsons episode (I think it's a Halloween one) where Homer comes into a possession of a toaster that sends him into all sorts of different realities every time he flips the lever. A reality where it rains donuts, dinosaurs rule, etc. Eventually he flips back to the "right" one. Except he notices there's some minor difference, though I can't remember what it is now. After a minute he shrugs and says "close enough" and stops there.

OMG! We're being the Brain on my lj now! Hee hee! I forgot about the toaster and it raining donuts!

Are you ears burning? Did you realize I was just talking about you?

It so does! But it's cool. I think about you, and you appear!

It's like magic!

Okay...now I'm thinking about chocolate. *closes eyes*

Ah, that explains it. Thanks. Although the line seemed quite appropriate for Jack, even without that extra snippet.
